2. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
13 Feb 51 deserted his unit and was captured by Tank Co, 7th RCT 1200 hr 14 Feb 51.

f. Heard from his platoon leader that one Regiment (unit unk) of CCF 38th Army is at vic of MYONGIL LI CS 370572.

g. Observed approx two 60mm mortars in Company.

h. River Crossing:
(1) Crossed HAN River Jan 51 at CS 333565.
(2) Unit did not use any bridging equipment as the river was frozen.

i. Psychological Warfare:
(1) Heard the loudspeaker once and its effect on CCF soldier is fair. He was the sixth person to desert his plat. 70 to 80% of the plat are planning to desert.
(2) He is willing to cooperate, but says the soldiers from North CHINA might not understand his southern dialect. However, PW also states that two-thirds of Company’s personnel are from South CHINA so the effect of the broadcast will be great.
(3) Suggested Propaganda.
(a) What are you CCF soldiers doing up there on the cold Korean hills?
(b) When are you going to receive a new set of warm clothing and a warm meal?
(c) Do you CCF soldiers have enough food?
(d) Did the supplies, reinforcements and tanks which the leaders always promised ever come to save you?
(e) Do you CCF soldiers have freedom of speech?
(f) Did you ever see RUSSIA? If you never saw Russia why do you believe the leaders’ words?
(g) I have seen UN forces. They will treat you good. They will keep their word and give you warm shelter and warm meals. Come my friends or do you want to be killed by trusting the Communist Russia which you never saw.

j. UN Artillery:
(1) At night they travel on trails without any particular distance between persons.
(2) When they are caught by artillery fire they hide in nearest foxholes or ditches.
(3) Airburst effect on men in foxholes unknown.
(4) Ground burst artillery firing is feared most.
(5) Night artillery firing bothers the night movement.
(6) The only way to avoid night artillery firing is to hide in foxholes.
(7) US artillery firing is accurate.
(8) White phosphorous artillery does not make them get out of their foxholes for it is safer in the holes.
(9) They have no way of destroying our artillery as they have no big guns. They are planning to destroy our tanks with mines.
