PW stated that he surrendered because he read a ‘Surrender Leaflet’ and trusted the UN and ROK Troops.
PW did not have any military information due to his short period of military service. He only knew the location of the 1st Bn of the 1st Regt. Reliability - fair.
Military History:15 Jul 50 - inducted at SARIWON (沙里院) Youth Training Center. Received basic training (Close order drill and manual of arms with wooden model rifle) for 7 days.
23 Jul 50 - Approx 1,000 conscripts (1st Regt of 1st Div) left SARIWON by train.
25 Jul 50 - Reached paint 2 km N of SEOUL.
19 Aug 50 - Reached MYONG-BONG-SAN via WONJU (原州), TANYANG (丹陽), ANDONG (安東), and KUNWI (軍威). About 500 troops (2nd Bn) separated at WONJU, and 1st Bn came to MYONG-BONG-SAN. The 1st Bn was divided into companies. and dispersed in the hills, PW was separated from his unit after an artillery shellin. PW surrendered to the ROK Troops, 24 Aug 50.
Personalities:2nd Plt (1st Div, 1st Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co) Ldr: KIM UK CH'AE (金旭彩) (김욱채); Jr Lt; about 28 years old. KIM, UK CH’AE was formerly with CCF in MANCHURIA.
Foreign Elements:PW heard from his platoon leader that all the officers in the 1st Regt were formerly with the CCF.
Weapons and Personnel:1st Bn - 3 rifle companies and 1 x HMG Co.
Rifle Co - 100 men, 1 HMG, 1 x 92-mm Mortar, about 3 LMG’s, about 12 Sub-machine guns and rifleman carried M1891/30 rifles.
Casualties: PW estimated that about 50 men in his Co (1st Co) were killed and wounded. Casualties in other units unknown.
Capability of Unit:Morale of the troops dropped due to heavy shelling.
Armor, Artillery and Vehicles:Unknown
Supplies:Ate once a day. Rice taken from farmers.
Last received 20 rounds of ammunition at MYONGBONG-SAN o/a 22 Aug 50.
Enemy Intentions:Objective of 1st Div - T’AEGU.
