PW was cooperative, but was vague on dates on which events took place. Information fairly reliable.
Military History:Inducted 4 Jul 50, HAEJU (海州). 15 days of basic infantry training (4 Jul - 29 Jul 50), HAEJU. 20 Jul 50, 1st Bn departed by rail to SEOUL - arrived 31 Jul 50.
Departed SEOUL - 31 Jul 50 - marched - arrived YONGDUNG’PO (永登浦) - 1 Aug 50.
Departed YONGDUNG’PO - 2 Aug 50 - marched - arrived SUWON (水原) 4 Aug 50.

20 Aug 50, while PW’s unit (1st Bn) was on a mountain (NW of the T'ONGYONG Village) they were shelled by 5 ROK warships. Dug in to avoid the severe shelling. PW’s Unit dispersed all over the mountain area. PW hid for 3 days. During the 3 days PW did not eat so on the 3rd day he went to the T’ONGYONG to find some food. Upon reaching T'ONGYONG Village (22 Aug 50, 0700 hours) PW was picked up by a ROK Marine Unit.
Personalities:2nd Co CO: KIM, TU HWAN (金斗煥) Lt; Age 24 years approx.
Weapons and Personnel:Present strength and equipment of unit. PW believes the 1st Bn, 3rd Regt, was annihilated, T’ONGYONG, 20 Aug 50. Only the few remaining were captured.
Losses 1st Bn, 3rd Regt, 500 men, T’ONGYONG 20 Aug 50.
No replacement men or equipment since departing HAEJU (29 Jul) to the time of captive (22 Aug 50).
Other details were lacking.
Armor:No Information.
Artillery:Observed 1 x 42-mm Gun towed by a truck (GAZ-51 type), KOSONG, 17 Aug 50.
Vehicles:Refer to Artillery.
Supplies:PW received 3 meals a day (29 Jul - 19 Aug 50). The daily amount was 800 grams of food per man.
Up to TAEJON (10 Aug), PW’s unit (1st Bn) received food supplies about twice per week. Supplies were transported by trucks. Source of supplies unknown.
Ammunition last received, HAEJU, 20 Jul 50. (78 rounds per man).
Enemy Intentions:No Information.
Additional Information:Hearsay: PW heard from Bn Commander that the 2nd and 3rd Bns of 3rd Regt were stationed somewhere in KOSONG Area (20 Aug 50).
PW observed approximately 100 American prisoners near TAEJON. (10 Aug 50).
Observation was made when their unit (1st Bn) by-passed the prisoners marching.
No information on guerrilla or other units' location.
