a. Brief Chronology:
PW volunteered in CNA Aug 1946 and captured by CCF at CHUNCHIN, MANCHURIA Feb 1950. Jun 1950 enrolled in CCF and assigned to present unit.
25 Oct 50, 450th Regt marched across YALU River via ANTUNG, MANCHURIA to SINUIJU. After two days at SINUIJU the Regt proceeded south at night only. He believed that his unit passed through SEOUL and crossed HAN River 4 Jan 51 over the ice at night.
16 Jan 51, when the unit was approx 40km south of HAN River, they had first contact. PW Co of 100 suffered 26 casualties, due to air strafing, artillery bombardment and small arms which continued for approx 8 hours. 24 Jan 51, they advanced about 8km, to a place believed to be YANGJIRI (CS4822). Upon arriving PW unit contacted and engaged UN forces for approx 6 hr incurring about 16 casualties. As a result they were forced to withdraw northward. PW with his Sqd Ldr separated from his unit intending to surrender. They spent approx 5 days wandering around mountain area. Meantime while they were running in the direction of the UN forces, the Sqd Ldr was killed and PW was wounded by CCF fire. PW surrendered at YANGJIRI (CS4822) 011700 Feb 1951.

b. Organization and Strength: (Present)
HMG Co was composed of 3 plat with the strength originally 100, but approx 60 men as of 24 Jan 51.

c. Deployment of PW Own Unit:
While at YANGJI-RI area 24 Jan 51, HMG Co was located on a hill, believed to be Hill 296 (CS478230). Did not know present deployment of his unit, which he left while it was withdrawing.

Heard the 38th, 39th and 40th Armies are in KOREA but whereabouts unknown.

There were 6 x 82 mm mortar in the entire Regt. Most of EM in Regt were armed with Jap 38 model rifles, approx 80 rd per rifle, about 4 hand grenades per man. There were 2 LMG and 2 x 60 mm mortar in each rifle company. No ammo nor equipment was received since entering KOREA.
No food supply was received; it was obtained from local villages by confiscation.
All personnel in the Regt received one set of winter clothing at SINUIJU; since then they have not received any new clothing.
PW believed that supplies were not received because they were destroyed by UN Air attack.

f. Mission and Intention:
Co Comdr stated that they will rest until the beginning of March, when the spring offensive will be launched, also heard that the spring offensive will be aided by air and navy, but doubts that navy and air power is available. Object of the spring offensive is to liberate the whole of KOREA, driving the Un Forces out.

j. Propaganda:
Political Officer stated that CCF came to KOREA to aid NK, to liberate the whole of KOREA. If CHINA does not help her neighbor - NK, the agressor will come to CHINA and destroy her.
Also said that even though wounded, if taken prisoner, they would be shot, or used for hard labor by the enemy.
Practically everyone in PW company read the surrender leaflets 23 Jan 51. Believes that approx 50% believed them and wanted to surrender. The political officer told them not to believe the leaflets because they are merely enemy propaganda.
