PW surrendered on Hill 297 CS 301341 at about 1030, 1 Feb 51 with four others of his squad after half hour fire fight because he did not want to fight any longer.

Background: Served in CNA for 2 years from 1947-1949.

Most companies have from 60-80 men left, but some companies have only 20 men. There have been no replacements since PW arrived in KOREA. One HMG Co and three infantry companies compose one battalion.
b. Unit Location:
446th Regimental headquarters was seen about 25 Jan 51 at PANGYO-RI CS3239, and is believed to be there yet. 3rd Bn Hq located at the northern base of Hill 297 CS 301341. 1st and 2nd Bn were at regimental Hq o/a 25 Jan 51.
c. Mission of Unit:
Mission of 8th Co was to defend Hill 297 CS 301341.
d. Location of Adjacent Unit:
PW heard that 447th Regt Hq was located about 20 minutes walk N of Hill 297 CS 301341. Nights of 30 and 31 Jan 51, three battalions of 447th Regt left for SUWON CS2428 to replace 446th Regt, which was in hill N of SUWON. 447th Regt Hq still in the original location.
e. Weapons, Other Than Small Arms:
Three 92mm infantry guns per division, three 82mm mortars per regiment, three mountain guns (exact size unk) (larger than 92mm) per div and six 60mm guns per company.
f. Reinforcements Immediately Available:
1st and 2nd Battalions of 446th Regt located at PANGYO-RI CS3239, about 8 km N of 3rd Bn Hq are immediate reinforcements.
g. Mission:
On 20 Jan 51 the CO of the 8th Co assembled all men and stated orders had been received from higher headquarters to have troops dig large scale tunnels in mountains and rest and recuperate for two months. Also that supplies would be received soon and attacks would commence in two months.
