PW was in ill health and his unit left him untreated. Descended hill to get treatment from villagers. Captured on the way to village.
a. Chronology:
20 Jul 50 - Conscripted into NKA and received basic training for 20 days. Assigned to 12 Div, 2nd Regt, 2nd Bn, 6th Co, 2nd Plat, 3rd Sqd.
15 Dec 50 - Reassigned to the V Corps, Recon Bn, 2nd Co, 2nd Plat, 2nd Sqd.
10 Jan 51 - V Corps crossed the 38th Parallel near HONG-CHON, SE.
20 Jan 51 - V Corps Hq was believed to be located in KALMAEKOL.
14 Feb 51 - Captured at 149346 by Recon patrol, 18th Regt.
b. Organization and Strength of Unit:
V Corps had 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 32nd, and 38th Div. Each Div had 3 Regt. Each Regt had 3 Bn. Each Bn had 3 Co. Each Co - 3 Plat.
Heard from his friend that strength of V Corps was at least 50,000 (sic).
c. Enemy Intentions:
Intention of V Corps was to take WONJU and KANGNUNG.
d. Weapon: (Recon Bn)
Russ rifles: 50%
PPSH SMG: 50%
e. CCF:
Saw approx 3,000 CCF troops at HOENGSONG 10 Feb 51 moving S thru mountain trails. Had about 30 Arty disassembled and pecked on horses' back. Also observed 10 Japanese LMG.
f. Recon Activities:
Mission of the Recon Bn was to get in UN area and get information on UN strength in that particular area also number of tanks and trucks. In order to acquire these info lockout posts were placed on top of hills. After these info were obtained 2 men were dispatched to their Hq in rear to deliver info.
Heard 3 of these Recon parties were dispatched. One to YONG-DOK, one to C■…■ and another to PUSAN.
