FIELD REPORT (521 LDI 0464) 9 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: KIM, Yun Gi

2. ASSESSMENT:

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
PW with one man deserted from 1st Bn 4 Feb 51 with intention of going back to their original unit; ROK 8th Div, 21st Regt, 3rd Bn, 12th Co.
Walked south where American Arty guns were firing from and arr there 3 days later, and captured by UN Force at CHUDONG-NI.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
1 Jul 49 - Inducted into the ROK and was asgd to 8th Div, 21st Regt, 3rd Bn, 12th Co.
25 Nov 50 - PW captured by CCF at YONGWON when 8th Div was overrun.
2 Dec 50 - PW with 300 men were turned over to NKA Replacement Bn and were indoctrinated for 20 days.
23 Dec 50 - PW with 100 men were asgd to 6th Div, 101st Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co, 3rd Plat, 3rd Sqd.
2 Jan 51 - 6th Div crossed the 38th Parallel at KUMHWA.
20 Jan 51 - 6th Div arr at SANGDONG-PYONG (DS215-565).
6 Feb 51 - 1st Bn of 101st Regt left their position (DS 2255) for the purpose of reinforcing 7th Div in TUNAE MYON (DS3248) Area.
4 Feb 51 - 3rd Bn of 101st Regt left their position (DS 225-567), and started south.
5 Feb 51 - 6th Div Hq was believed to be located approx 16 km N of SANGDONG-PYONG (DS 2156).

b. Organization:
6th Div had 101st, 102nd, 103rd Regt. Ea Regt had 3 Bn.
Ea Bn had 3 Co, one Mortar (82mm) Co, one Com Plat, one Med Plat, and one Trans Plat.

Casualties: 20 Dec 50, approx 40 men of 2nd Co were KIA by air attack at YANG, NK.

e. Mission:
Mission of 6th Div was to attack UN Forces from flank and rear and set up road-blocks. Immediate mission was to reinforce depleted 7th Div.
Mission of the 1st Bn (101st Regt) was to attack UN Force from flank and rear when UN Force advanced into their area from where rest of the Div withdraw as planned.

g. Supply
(1) Food: 7 days rations were issued to each man. Food was locally procured. Very scarce. 2 meals a day, mainly rice and soybean soup.
(2) Ammo: Very scarce. Each man issued 100 rd of rifle ammo and one or two handgrenades ea. Troops were warned to make every shot count.
(3) Clothing: Every man of 6th Div wore CCF issued cotton quilted uniforms. Supply of Chinese made summer uniforms and under-wear are on the way. Every man was also issued now Chinese made canvas rubber sole shoes.
(4) Medicine: No medicine. No medical treatment given to wounded or sick.

h. 38th Div:
38th Div was deactivated recently and unknown numbers of its personnel were turned over to 6th Div as reinforcement.
In the 1st Bn about 30 men were affected by recent epidemic (typhus). Patients were immediately shipped to rear. No hosp or aid station in the 6th Div.
