4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
O/a 30 Jan 51, while he was travelling through the village of HONGCHON, he observed many typhus cases among its people. Estimated the population of HONGCHON to be approx 2,000 out of which one-fifth were ill with typhus. Being a doctor he examined few of these helpless villagers to comfort them. The symptoms were high fever, rashes and at times loss of hair. He also observed the “Off Limit Quarantine” signs, on the outskirt of this village, stating that this village was not to be entered by any NKA. Also observed the guards posted at the village entrances. Heard from villagers that NK soldiers, stricken with typhus at this village previously, were immediately evacuated to another village.
