2. ASSESSMENT:
Intelligence and cooperation, fair. Memory and physical condition, fair. Reliability, fair.

3. MARCHES:
a. Passive air defense:
Marched at night. Each company used one bugler for air warning. When enemy aircraft was sighted the bugler sounded the alarm. Troops took such immediate cover as terrain offered.
b. Usually started march at 1700 hours.
c. PW unit marched over trails most of the time, however, on some occasions main roads were used.
d. When marching over trails, they marched single file. On main roads, single file on both sides of the road.
e. Usually halts were from 10 to 15 minutes at 1 to 2 hour intervals.

4. BIVOUACS:
a. Each man dug a fox hole for protection against air attacks. Sentries were posted around bivouac areas for security.
b. Sentries were posted approx 50m from bivouac areas, and approx 100m apart. One sentry at each point.
c. Every man sleeps in own fox hole from 0530 hours. PW unit ate twice a day; one meal at 0500 hours and evening meal at 1630 hours.
d. PW did not have shelter, other than fox hole which was usually camouflaged with trees and whatever other material available.
e. Used natural camouflage such as snow and trees etc for camouflaging bivouac areas.

5. DEFENSIVE TACTICS:
a. PW Bn used individual fox holes and camouflaged machine gun nests in defense position.
b. PW Regt used line system for defense. Emplaced all three Bn on the line. The Regt Mortar Co was placed in the rear approx 80m behind OPLR, with Regt Hq. The other two regt of PW division were held in reserve approx 2 miles behind OPLR. Each Co had 2 x 60mm Mortars and 25 shells; 2 x HMG supplied with 4 cases of 250 rounds each ammo, 6 x LMG with 800 rounds ammo. Each man equipped with one 78 type rifle and 4 hand grenades. The Regt Heavy Weapons Co, equipped with 4 x 82mm mortars emplaced approx 80m behind OPLR. Mortar and machine gun positions were camouflaged.
