23 Aug 50 as 2nd Co, 3rd Bn was proceeding up s hill on the outskirts of IMAM-NI (立岩里), a few rifle shots were heard from top of the hill. 2nd Co C.O., mistaking the shots for ones fired by his own men, shouted twice for 2nd Co not to fire. As the rest of 2nd Co neared the top of hill ROK soldiers in front and on flanks of 2nd Co shouted “if you want to live throw down your arms and surrender,” Approx 30 men from 2nd Co, 3rd Bn (including PW) obeyed the order. The rest of the 2nd Co attempted to escape.

Enemy Intentions:
Objective of 3rd Bn upon leaving SINUIJU (3 Aug 50) was to be a part of Rear Supply Echelon in ANDONG. Upon arriving at ANDONG, 2nd Co CO told his men that mission was changed and that 2nd Co was to continue southward (destination not disclosed to PW). No gas training or equipment received.

Additional Information:
Observed no guerrillas. Saw no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets. PW heard from “comrades” that 73rd Regt had 6 battalions. PW believed NKPA is fighting ROK, USA, and JAPAN. PW stated that this is a widespread belief throughout his regt and civilian populace in SINUIJU.
PW stated that SINUIJU airfield has had no aircraft since 1948 at which time it had Soviet airplanes. When PW left SINUIJU (3 Aug 50) airfield was being used by NKPA ground forces for basic infantry training including rifle marksmanship.
