Military History:
11 Apr 50 - Inducted at SUKCH'ON Training Center. Received basic training (close order drill and target aiming practice, no firing) for 2½ months. Assigned to 14th Div, 24th Regt, 2nd Bn, 6th Co, 3rd Plt, 2nd Sqd.
22 Jul 50 - The 24th Regt left SUKCH'ON by train.

29 Jul 50 - The 24th Regt left SEOUL on foot.
o/a 2 Aug 50 - Reached TAEJON and departed same day.
16 Aug 50 - The 24th Regt reached 5 km E of SONGJONG-DONG via KUMSAN (金山) and MUJU. The companies of the 24th Regt scattered in hills located 5 km E of SONGJONG-DONG. For 6 days the 24th Regt was shelled by US artillery.
24 Aug 50 - PW’s squad was ordered to reconnoiter along the NAKTONG River. PW’s squad (9 men) led by a Sr Lt advanced; the squad encountered US troops and drew fire. PW waited for a chance and ran toward the US troops and surrendered. Six others also wanted to surrender, but they were not able to run away because the plt ldr and the sqd ldr were watching them. PW surrendered to the US troops at 1141.0-1433.4.

Foreign Elements:
PW heard from his plt ldr that 50% of the officers in the 24th Regt were formerly with the CCF.

Weapons and Personnel:
Strength of the 24th Regt as of 16 Aug 50:
Regt - 3 rifle Bn’s (2nd, 3rd and 4th Bns. 500 men per Bn. The 1st Bn was annihilated when they treid to cross the NAKTONG River o/a 15 Aug 50)

Losses - about 15 men were killed by shelling in PW’s company between 16 Aug 50 and 24 Aug 50. Other units unknown.

Capability of Unit:
Morale of the troops was very low, due to shortage of food. Some troops knew that they were being deceived but were not able to desert because they are constantly being watched.
