18 1300K Aug 50, PW deserted from his unit (3rd CO). After walking about 1 km W of T’ONGYONG City, PW was picked up by an ROK Navy Unit. At time of his capture 19 1000K Aug 50, PW still were the uniform of N. Korean Forces, no arms.
PW deserted his unit, because he was afraid of dying. His company had engaged ROK troops 18 0800K Aug 50, at a mountain 1 km S of T’ONGYONG City. After seeing many NKPA troops being killed and wounded, PW believed that they did not stand a chance and started running.

One AT platoon in Co: strength unknown; 12 x 14.5mm PTRS-41 AT Guns.
Losses: 2nd Plt, 3rd Co - 20 men, 4 x LMGs at 1 km S of T’ONGYONG 18 Aug 50.
No replacement of men or equipment (18 Aug 50). 3rd Bn, 77th Regt was organized at W HAEJU on 9 Aug 50 with approx 700 men, mostly men who were inducted 8 Aug 50.
The locations of other units of the 77th Regt, unknown.
Armor:No information.
Artillery:PW observed 3 x GAZ-51 trucks hauling 3 x 45-mm Guns at KOSONG 16 Aug 50.
Supplies:PW ate 3 meals a day. Food looted from the villagers.
Ammunition last received at HAEJU 28 Jul 50. 70 rounds per man.
After departing YONGDUNGP’O, PW’s unit (3rd Co) received no supplies (food or ammunitions).
Source of supplies unknown.
Enemy Intentions:The objective of 3rd Bn, 77th Regt, was CHINJU. When PW’s unit, 3rd Co, 3rd Bn, arrived at CHINJU, 14 Aug 50, the city was already in their hands so they continued their march to T’ONGYONG.
Additional Information:PW did not know anything concerning redesignation of the 7th Div.
No information on guerrilla activities or location of other units.
