2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was of average intelligence but information very limited due to short period of service.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
12 Sep 50: PW entered volunteer force at YONGDOK. PW was sent immediately to KIGGYE as replacement for 7th Div. When the general retreat began, PW in a group of 100 others of 7th Div was ordered northward to KANGGYE.
24 Oct 50: Group reached KANGGYE area where group was incorporated into 12th Div. PW rested here.
24 Nov 50: 2nd Regt 12th Div began march southward. Unit followed mountain trails straight down the middle of KOREA.
25 Dec 50: Crossed 38th parallel at an unknown point.
1 Jan 51: 2nd Regt contacted ROK forces in the hills east of HONGCH’ON.
2 Jan 51: Captured.

Unit Organization and Strength:
V Corp - composed of 3 Divs of which 12th Div was one.
12th Div - composed of 3 Regts.
2nd Regt - composed of 3 Bns
3rd Bn - composed of 3 Rifle Cos, 1 Mortar Co, 1 HMG Co.

Strength:
12th Div - 5,000
2nd Regt - 1,500
3rd Bn - 500
Each company has 100 men (original strength - 24 Nov 50).
12th Div was organized in KANGGYE and the strength was still under par so stragglers were being incorporated into the unit. No new soldiers were added to the unit while marching south. PW’s Co of 100 men lost about 20 men during the forced march due to illness and sore feet. These men were left behind. Present strength unknown.

No heavier weapon found in this unit.
Ammo - no extra ammo other than that which could be carried by the individual soldiers was brought along during the march.

Food:
Food was procured locally by each Co when they entered the village. The village head was ordered to produce the needed amount of food. A certificate was left with the village head which stated that the amount of rice procured would be subtracted from the tax.
