Feb 46 - Entered North-Eastern Ind Army, MUTANCHIANG, Military District (東北自治軍牡丹江軍區穆綾縣), MULENG-HSIEN Ind Bn (獨立營) as infantry man at MULENG-HSIEN (穆綾縣), approx 50 km E of MUTANCHIANG City.
Jul 46 - Unit designation was changed to North-Eastern Democratic United Army (東北民主聯軍牡丹江軍), MUTANCHIANG Military District (區穆陵縣獨立營), MULENG-HSIEN Ind Bn.
15 Dec 56 - Promoted to Sqd Ldr.
Feb 47 - Unit designation was changed to North-Eastern People’s Liberation Army, MUTANCHIANG Military District, Ind 3rd Regt, 2nd Bn, 1st Co (東北人民解放軍牡丹江軍區獨立第三團(聯)第二營(大)第一連) at MULENG (穆陵).

Apr 50 - 15th Div departed and arrived WONSAN (元山) o/a 26 Apr 50. Unit designation was changed to 7th Div, NKA.
O/a Aug 50 - Unit designation was changed to 12th Div at KYONGSANG PUKTO ANTONG (慶尙北道安東).

Naval Schools
HANKOU Naval School
Located in HANKOU. Organized in Nov 49 by former Nationalist Navy personnel. Strength was approx 50,000. Sailors received Communist ideological training. Because the CCF had no Navy, these men were reserved for future use and there was no indication of forming a Chinese Communist Navy at that time (Feb 50).
MUKDEN Naval School (奉天海軍學校)
Located in MUKDEN. Organized in Nov 49 by former Nationalist Navy personnel. Strength was approx 50,000. Organization and purposes are same as HANKOU Naval School.
Aviation School
Location: MUTANCHIANG Airfield
Organized: Mar 46 by Japanese with approx 30 fighter planes and 600 Manchurians. Instructors were Japanese and Chinese. In Oct 46 school moved to TUNGAN, SUNGCHIANG-SHENG (■安 松江省). In Aug 47, School returned to MUTANCHIANG Airfield with approx 40 Japanese made fighter planes. In Feb 48, Nationalist air force began to bring their fighter planes. In Feb 48, Nationalist air force began to bring their fighter planes and joined Communist forces from CHILIN (吉林) airfield. In Feb 50, MUTANCHIANG airfield had approx 40 US made Marine aircraft.
Selection of Aviation Cadets:
In Feb 50, approx 200 candidates in their early twenties were sent to the 15th Group from the 43rd Army for further physical and mental tests.
Armored Army Group, 4th Field Army:
Headquarters: Until Dec 49 located at HARBIN. Later Hq unk.
Strength: Approx 70,000

5th and 6th Divisions. PW once heard that approx 200 armored vehicles were in this army group. Most were tanks (US and Japanese). There were also US and Japanese armored cars in the armored group. PW heard tank units had been used in the TANGSHAN (磄山) Battle (Nov 48-Feb 50) and the TIENTSIN (天津) Battle.

There were a few Japanese in the CCF till Apr 47 but they were sent to JAPAN by order of the CCF with the exception of Medical officers, female nurses and technicians, which were still kept in the CCF. Most medical doctors at present hold the position of Ass’t Hospital Head.

9. UNIT PARTICIPATION IN THE INVASION OF HAINAN ISLAND:
After completion of the AOKUEIPIEN Battle (奧桂邊戰役) o/a 15 Jun 50, the 4th Field Army received secret orders from CCF GHQ to start preparation for the invasion of HAINAN Island.
Training began immediately in the 43rd Army, 15th Army Grp, 4th Field Army. Guard Bn, 43rd Army, and Guard Bns of the 127th, 128th, 129th Div of the 43rd Army (approx 2,500 men) received orders to collect 3,000 various boats to carry approx 40,000 men (43rd Army strength) for the HAINAN Island invasion. Boats were collected from villagers, fishermen and the merchant marines. O/a 12 Feb 50 approx 2,200 boats were ready.
43rd Army used the SUMEN (徐問) and PAISHA (白沙) Coast for practice landing. Practice was carried out mostly at night (1800 - 2200 hr) due to heavy air raids during the daytime. PW heard that the Armor Grp of the 4th Field Army would join the invasion. Largest guns in the Armor Grp were Japanese made 220mm guns. PW heard that when the Armor Grp joined, it would be possible to bombard HAINAN Islands from the SUMEN (徐問) coast. Shortest distance between these two points was 16 km.
PW has no further information on the HAINAN Invasion as he was transferred to MANCHURIA before the invasion took place.
