Objective of 2 Bn was to defend ANJUNG NI from invasion. However, as soon as they heard that American troops had landed at INCHON they retreated to PYONGTAEK.

8. RAILROAD:
Bridges between YONGHUNG and KOWON and TOGWON and WONSAN were destroyed on or about 1 Aug 50.
Bridges between WONSAN and ANBYON and between ANBYON and SINGOSAN were also destroyed.
From SINGOSAN to SEOUL railroad was in operation.

9. HAMHUNG CITY:
There were 2 army camps in HAMHUNG CITY. One was located at HOESANG NI and approx 1,000 troops were stationed there.
There were also 1,000 troops stationed at HOEYANG NI.
These troops were sent to southern front on 23 Jun 50, 2 days prior to the outbreak of hostilities.
On 1 Jul 50 all male 18-37 in HAMHUNG city and vicinity were conscripted and sent to above camps.
The recruits received basic training at these camps.
HAMHUNG area was bombed 5 Jul 50 and again 20 Jul 50. When US planes (3) came over to bomb SONGCHON river bridges, AAA guns (probably 3) emplaced on PALLYONG SAN (a mountain) opened fire at them.
The railroad bridge (See Sketch #1) was damaged but after 5 days of repair the railroad was again in operation. The road bridge was not destroyed. All bombs meant for this target dropped near the bridge. PALLYONG SAN (mount) was off limit to all persons after outbreak of war.
All food was being transported into CHUBUNG MYON mountain and FUNSAN area. (After these bombings)
Formerly food was stored in warehouses near the HAMHUNG RR Station. Transportation of these stocks required about 10 days, so it is believed that a great quantity of food, mainly rice (unprocessed) is stored in these new locations.
Communist HQs of HAMGYONG was located at NAM DO, HAMHUNG. (see sketch)
The people in HAMHUNG city harbored ill feeling toward the NKPG because their male population was being conscripted into army without any consideration for the people.
They felt they were becoming slaves because all their freedom was taken away.
Leading people eagerly listen to broadcasts from South KOREA and JAPAN despite heavy punishment if they are caught.

10. HUNGNAM CITY
PW was engaged in digging foundation for AA machine gun atop of mountain which was located on south side of HUNGNAM city (see sketch #2)
At least one AA machine gun was observed approx 20m away.
Trenches were being dug on side of mountain as shown on sketch. Length of trench was unknown, width was 1½m.
