PW attended Pyongyang Medical College, 3 yrs, Jul 47 - Jul 50.
PW’s unit was at CHORWON but he deserted 4 days after joining it, and went back to PYONGYANG. When he heard that UN Forces had landed in INCHON he left PYONGYANG on 21 Sep and came to KYONGSONG and surrendered himself on 28 Sept 50 at the KYONGSONG Police Station.
PW talked freely, was fairly intelligent. Information is fairly reliable.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
PW was conscripted into the NK Army on 8 Aug 50 at PYONGYANG with all of the Medical College students. PW did not have any basic training, was told to report to the 513 Unit 23rd Arty Regt which was to be formed at CHORWON. PW and 5 other medics joined this unit on 12 Aug 50. Four days later he obtained the Regt Commander’s permission to go to PYONGYANG to get some medical supplies since none was on hand. After arriving at PYONGYANG he did not return to his unit.
Unit Organization:
The 23rd Arty Regt, was newly formed on o/a 15 Jul 50, consisted of approx 1,200 men.
Possibly equipped with 45mm, 105mm & 122mm Arty, Russian made.
Unit History:
Unit was newly organized at CHORWON o/a 15 July 50. PW joined it on 2 Aug 50. He believes that after unit was fully organized, it was sent to KYONGSONG for training. This is based on the fact that when PW came to KYONGSONG to surrender he observed some officers and men from this unit retreating north on 27 Sep 50.
Dispositions:
PW states that nearly all of the medical supplies were received form a place called JOCHON, located approx 8 km SW of PYONGYANG.
The medical supplies are located in a church flying a red cross flag.
Knowledge of Other Units:
PW observed the 18th Inf Brig at CHORWON o/a 12 Aug 50. The Brig was undergoing basic training.

4. GENERAL:US PsW:
PW observed about 20 American PsW being marched through PYONGYANG with about 5 NK guards during the early part of July and he heard that they were taken to KIM IL SONG University. It is as three story building located in the outskirts of PYONGYANG in the vicinity of the former TAEDONG Technical College.
Foreign Elements:
PW observed about 20 Soviet officers at PYONGYANG on 20 Sep 50. These officers were all wearing military uniforms and were stationed at the Army Hq. He saw the above-mentioned officers going back and forth near the Hq after UN Air Forces bombed the building o/a 20 Sep 50. He further stated that he heard from some civilians that some of the Russian officers were killed during the air raid.
These Soviet officers were the advisory group for the NK Army. (For location and further details of Hq, see sketch 1 & 2.)
Special Info:
PW believes there are some NK Forces stationed at CHINNAMPO, based on the fact that on 9 Aug 50, a friend (Pharmacist) and about 5 doctors were sent to CHINNAMPO on 9 Aug 50.
PW was at PYONGYANG from 20 Aug 50 to 21 Sep 50 and states that he did not observed any units in that vicinity. The only military personnel observed were officers, working at Army Hq and some police units.
