2. ASSESSMENT:
PW talked freely. PW stated he denied all communistic and political affiliation prior to induction but nevertheless was commissioned a Jr Lt in the Cultural Section immediately after his induction in spite of his meager primary school education. He tried to be-little his duty as a cultural officer. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
20 Jul 50: Inducted into NKPA and immediately commissioned Jr Lt in the Cultural section. He received no military training.
o/a 25 Jul 50: Arrived at SEOUL. 102nd Security Regiment was organized.
1 Sep 50: The 4th Bn of the 102nd Security Regt was stationed in NAMWON (南原). The Regt’l Hq was located in CHONJU (全州).
9 Sep 50: The 4th Bn was transferred to MUJANG.
12 Sep 50: Transferred to YONGGWANG (靈光) The Bn Hq was stationed here.
28 Sep 50: At 1240 he was captured by UN troops. NKPA soldier who was left behind that the Regt’l Hq had evacuated earlier in the morning

Organization and Strength:
The 102nd Security Regiment was composed of four (4) Bns, Supply Plt, Medical Plt and a Signal Plt. Each Bn had an original strength of about 850 men and in the present strength was still 850 men. Out of 850 men in the Bn only 250 were from North KOREA. The rest were drafted from South KOREA and had no military training. Signal Platoon had 20 men; Medical Plt 15 to 20 men and the Supply Plt had 30 men.

Equipment:
Following is the equipment in one Security Bn:
7.62m (M 1891/30 rifle: two rifles to every three men with 100 rounds of ammunition per rifle)
2 x 82w (M1936) mortar
1 x LMG (M1946)
5 x US M-l carbines: Issued in SEOUL. Only company commanders had these weapons. Ammunition supply seemed ample.
2 x trucks (one US 2½ ton 6 x 6 and one Japanese truck NISSAN)

Intentions:
The mission of the 102nd Security Regt was to guard the area in the vicinity of CHONJU,

Disposition:
The 4th Bn of the 102nd Regt was assigned to guard the YOMG-GWAN-GUN (靈光郡) (County) with town of YONGGWAN as the Hq. PW believes all units of the 102nd Security Regt are still at thier original strength.

Effectiveness:
All officers had previous military training and were believed to be competent, however, cultural officers lacked military training.

Morale and Propaganda:
PW considered the morale to be Iow, mainly due th lack of training. UN propaganda leaflets were seen for the first time by PW on 27 Sep 50. He had never heard of UN leaflets prior to this.

Cultural Section of a Battalion:
The Cultural Section of the 4eth Bn consisted of five (5) officers and was divided into the following sections: Bn CO of the Ciltural Section, usually a Lt Col, but in the 4th Bn a Capt was ths CO, Democratic Youth Association Activities (Jr Lt), Political Education (Sr Lt), Propaganda (Capt), Statistics (Jr Lt). The general purpose of the Cultural Section was to indoctrinate the troops politically.

4. GENERAL:
13 Aug 50 PW saw about 90 PsW in TAEJON in a 2 story building. Treatment appeared good.
