3. MILITARY HISTORY:27 Aug 48 - Inducted at PYONGYANG and assigned to Pektosan Regt (other designation unknown), 2nd HMG Co at CHORWON (鉄原)
22 Sep 50 - The regt (1,500 men) entrained for MAPO (麻浦) via SEOUL, but enroute, on 24, Sep 50, the unit was attacked by UN Air Forces and became disorganized.
26 Sep 50 - Unable to relocate his unit, PW threw away his arms and surrendered to the Security Police.
4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:About 30 Russian officers were observed in WONSAN (元山) on 15 Aug 50. Russian Army and Naval personnel were also seen at MUNCHON (文川).
5. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:Strength of the 2nd HMG Bn was about 800 officers and men. One third of the unit was unarmed, 300 were armed with SMGs, and the remainder with rifles and about 20 rds of ammo.
6. LOCATION OF AMMO DUMPS:On 21 Aug 50, source observed a largo fuel and ammo dump concealed in the forest SE of YONGDAM (龍潭). (see sketch for disposition) These supplies were brought in by train from the N and from WONSAN. To his knowledge, supplies were not sent elsewhere from here.
7. TROOP CONCENTRATIONS:A great number of NKA and Naval personnel were observed at MUNCHON (文川) on and prior to 21 Aug 50, These men, PW thinks, were transferred here because of the danger from UN air raids at WONSAN (元山).
8. FORTIFIED AREA:A fortified area was observed about 2 Km E of the YONGDAM RR Station, but specific details are lacking.
9. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:A. Effectiveness of our air attacks.
In travelling from KOWON (고원) to PYONGYANG (평양) from 21 Aug 50 to 27 Aug 50, source observed three (3) demolished ammo trams, detonations from which had nearly demolished nearby villages.
B. Psychological warfare
Leaflets were observed at WONSAN on 5 Aug 50 which stimulated PW’s desire to desert after he was conscripted.
C. HEARSAY
In Aug 50, Russian submarines were reported to be in MUNCHON (文川).
In Aug 50, subject heard that there was a PW enclosure in PYONGYANG (平壤).
