1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Willing to talk and information seems reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
2000 hr 3 Mar 51, PW with one other person deserted a NKA political section (strength 80) while transporting rice to the front at SANDAE-DONG (DS1960) and surrendered to 23d RCT at DS3942 1200 4 MAR 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
28 Nov 50, captured at SUNCHON by CCF unit.
1 Dec 50, observed 500 ROK PW and 10 other UN PW at PUKCHANG PWE.
0700 2 Dec 50, PW with approx 160 others was taken to MAENGSAN by CCF escort of 10 men.
1 Feb 51, PW was assigned to V Corps Replacement Regt, 2d Bn, 7th Co, 1st Plat and moved with unit to HONGCH’ON.
5 Feb 51, deserted unit and contented 8th Div, 21st Regt, 3d Bn. 10 Feb 51, PW surrounded and again captured by CCF troops, was sent to YUDONG-NI (DS2559). Same day, sent to V Corps and attached to Political section (ost strength: 80). 25 Feb 51 moved to KAICH’ON (4km N of YUDONG-NI (DS2559)) and collected food until 3 MAR 51.
3 MAR 51 70 men including PW transported half a straw sack of rice each to SANDE-DONG (approx 6 km NW of DS3942) where NK 6th Div CP was.
1100 4 Mar 51 heard from soldier of 6th Div that 1st Div was on the right (east) flank of 6th Div. CCF troops had about 8 hand grenades and a rifle (with less than 100 rd) a place when he observed moved at night PW could not observe much about one my positions, strength, and locations. As of 3 Mar 51, believes V Corps had 30 trucks and jeeps, judging from vehicles observed 1 Mar 51. 3 Mar observed V Corps CP at KAPCH’ON (DS2757).

c. Food:
Food obtained from villages and insufficient.

d. Uniform:
All wore winter uniforms.

e. Medical:
About 2 or 3 were sick in each co 1 Mar 51. Symptoms: fever and headache. No medical treatment.

f. Supply:
Insufficient due to air interdiction.

g. Physical Condition:
Poor due to shortage of food and cold weather.

h. Morale:
Fair due to propaganda indoctrination.
