1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

CAPTURING UNIT: “E” Co, 2d Bn, 7th Marines
INTERROGATOR: PFC KUME

2. ASSESSMENT:
7 Mar 51 3d Co engaged in fire fight with UN troops on Hill 505. 3d Co received heavy casualties and retreated N while PW and another soldier (PW 1st M-P-4700) remained on hill overnight. Following morning surrendered to 7th Marines.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Mission:
Defend Hill 505 (DS 0656). Regt Hq 8 Mar 51 was approx. 4 km N of Hill 505.

b. Strength of Unit:
Original Strength: (Upon entering KOREA Nov 50)

Present Strength: 9 Mar 51
586th Regt reorganized 28 Feb 51.
Present strength: 1st HMG Co, 2d and 3d Rifle Co.

c. Chronology:
Feb 45 - Entered CNA.
Jul 45 - Conscripted into CCF. Deserted.
Dec 48 - Conscripted into CCF.
20 Nov 5o - Entered KOREA with 2d Co, Engr Bn, 66th Corps. Engr Bn mission to construct bridges and roads for CCF supply route. PW did not engage in any fire fight to date (8 Mar 51).
25 Dec 50 - Arrived KUMHWA, NORTH KOREA, with 66th Corps. 196th, 197th and 198th Div had already advanced S of 38th Parallel. Passed CHUNCHONG, HONGCHON, then took mountain roads and travelled S.
Early Feb 51 - Saw many CCF trucks hauling ammo, food and clothings.
1 Mar 51 - Reassigned to present unit and sent to front lines, marching at night continuously.
2 Mar 51 - Arrived DS 0656, Hill 505, and set defensive line.
7 Mar 51 - 3d Co, defending above hill, was attacked by UN troops. Co outnumbered, received heavy casualties and retreated N. PW and another soldier remained in foxhole and 8 Mar 51 surrendered to 7th Marines with a safe conduct leaflet.

Shelter - slept in mountains

g. Other Units:
25 Feb 51 PW saw approx. 2000 CCF from 39th Corps moving N from vis DS 0656. 1 Mar 51, heard 198th moved N to rear to reorganize.

h. Morale:
Low, due to lack of food and clothing.

i. UN Weapons:
Fears air attacks most, followed by artillery barrage.
