3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
20 Nov 50 - 66th Army left ANTUNG by train at night and arrived CHOLSAN (XE4403) 21 Nov 50.
22 Nov 50 - Army left CHOLSAN at night and arrived HONGCHON (DS 0382) 19 Feb 51, travelling through small mountain passes at night.
5 Mar 51 - Lost his unit and surrendered at DS0754.

b. Organization:
66th Army composed of 196th, 197th and 198th Div. The 196th Div composed of 586th, 587th, and 588th Regt. 585th Regt composed of 1st, 2d, and 3d Bn. 1st Bn composed of 1st, 2d, and 3d Co. 2d Bn composed of 4th, 5th, and 6th Co. 3d Bn composed of 7th, 8th, and 9th Co. Each co composed of 1st, ed, and 3d Plat. Each plat has 3 sqd.

c. Unit Strength and Weapons:

Mar 51:
Due to tremendous losses, bn of 586th Regt deactivated and reorganized into 3 co. Present strength of regt is 500. Estimates most of these losses are attributable to UN arty.

586th Regt: 2 mortars (82mm, Chinese-make) (Originally 3)
2 HMG (Jap) in new 2d Co
3 LMG (US) in new 2d Co

d. Supply:
(1) Food: Insufficient. Two meals per day; consisting mainly of rice and bean soup. Each man carried 8 days' rations. Locally procured. 8 days' ration issued near 38th Parallel 6 Feb 51.
(2) Clothing: New canvas shoes and towels issued to each man of 586th Regt 1 Feb 51 near 38th Parallel.
(3) Ammo: 100 rd of rifle ammo and 4 handgrenades issued to each man at same place two days after they received clothing. Old UN M-1 rifles issued to men who did not have weapons.

e. Code Names:

f. Personalities:
CHANG, Sue Wye, 25, CO, 6th Co; also education officer.

g. Morale:
Believes morale of unit low because of intense arty fire and constant bombing. More than half of troops lost will to fight.

h. UN PW:
Observed about 20 US PW being taken northward near HONGCH'ON (DS 0382) 12 Feb 51. 4 wounded US PW were being transported in an American jeep. Those not wounded appeared to be in good shape.

i. Special EEI on Enemy Arty:
(1) Each infantry regiment has an arty battery attached.
(2) Strength of arty battery is 80 men and 15 horses with 2 ammo horse carts.
(3) Arty battery has 4 x 75mm(?) guns, Japanese-make, with 20 rd each.
Observed an arty piece pulled by 10 horses in a CCF unit of about company size heading south near HONGCH'ON 2 Mar 51. Believed it to be a big gun, though size was undetermined due to the fact that gun was covered.
