2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition. PW cooperative and of average intelligence, Information obtained is considered reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
50th Army, composed of the 148th, 149th, and 150th Div. 148th Div composed of 442nd, 443th, and 444th Regt. 442nd Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bn and 82mm Mortar Co. 2nd Bn composed of 3 Rifle Co and HMG Co. 5th Co composed of 3 Rifle Plat and 60mm Mortar Plat.
The code number for 50th Army was 57th Unit; however, on 6 Jan 51, the code number was changed to the following code name: LLANGSHAN-PU(   ).

b. Unit Assignment and Intention:
Mission of 442nd Regt to occupy area CS1617 for the next few days.

c. Disposition:
PW saw 2nd Bn CP in vic 4 km northeast of CHONCHONG-NI (CS1617) on 24 Jan 51.

d. Communication:
Telephones and messengers were used as means of communication within the unit.

f. Morale:
Due to lack of food and insufficient clothing, approx 90% of the men's morale in PW unit was low. 50% of the men were in poor physical condition caused by over exhaustion and lack of sleep.

g. Chronology:
PW volunteered for the CNA (9th Army, 99th Div) Jan 47 at KIANG-SI-SHENG(江西省). In Mar 47, 99th Army arrived SUPEI(蘇北), where PW became separated from his unit. In early part of 48, PW joined 60th CNA at KIRIN(吉林). PW fought with 60th Army in MANCHURIA until the entire Army capitulated to CCF Jul 49 at CHANGCHUN(長春). Captured troops received Communist indoctrination at CHUTAI-HSIEN(九台縣) until Dec 49. PW stated the 60th CNA was redesignated 50th CCF Army Dec 49 at CHUTAIHSIEN. The 50th Army proceeded to HUPEI(湖北) and engaged the CNA for approx 9 months. In early part of Oct 50 the 50th Army arrived ANTUNG (XE1842) crossing the border on foot the same day. 50th Army marched southward during the night along mountain trails and arrived CHONGCHON River early Dec 50. O/a 25 Dec 50 arrived at P'YONGYANG and proceeded to SEOUL, arriving o/a 19 Jan 51. 20 Jan 51, departed SEOUL and marched to CHONGHONG-RI, arriving 23 Jan 51. 25 Jan 51 at a location approx 12 km northwest of CHONGHONG-RI, PW unit was attacked by US troops. PW and one other were captured by US troops while taking cover in foxhole.

h. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was insufficient. Since crossing the border the troops ate only Korean food gathered from the farmers. No food supplies appear to have come from CHINA. Ammo also insufficient. Man issued 80 rd of ammo prior to crossing the border, with none received since then.

i. Psychological Warfare:
PW did not observe or hear of any UN propaganda leaflets or broadcasts.

j. Foreign Technicians:
PW stated that there is one Korean interpreter (Chinese national) in his Co.

k. Medical:
PW was immunized twice at HUPEI Apr 50, type unknown. Malaria seems to be the most common disease among CCF troops. Pills are given to patients contacting malaria.
