13 Jul 50 - 8th Div departed KANGNUNG.
D/U - Engr Bn repaired a damaged bridge at SAMCH'OK (三陟).
D/U - 8th Div arrived at ANDONG (安東) without encountering any extensive enemy resistance. The Engr Bn repaired a large bridge near ANDONG and many small bridges south of ANDONG. Bridges found impractical to repair were replaced by by-passes of sand-filled straw sacks laid across the river bottom. The Engr Bn arrived at UISONG with the 8th Div Hqs where it was engaged for 20 days in constructing air raid shelters and trenches for the 8th Div Hqs. The other units of the 8th Div were engaged to the south of UISONG where they sustained heavy casualties. The 8th Div CP never experienced any air raids.
18 Sep 50 - PW heard that the majority of the combat units of the 8th Div were wiped out and the Engr Bn was ordered to the front lines as reinforcements. The Engr Bn advanced to a point 4 km S of UISONG and encountered stiff enemy resistance. The 2nd Co of the Engr Bn had three (3) killed and five (5) wounded. It retreated to a point 2 km S of UISONG (義城).
20 Sep 50 - The 2nd Co of the Engr Bn positioned on a hill, advanced to counter-attack but met stiff resistance and became disorganized. PW remained on the hill, instead of advancing, and surrendered to the ROK forces with another PW.

Unit Organization and Strength:
Last Known Composition of Unit: PW heard that the only remaining units of the 8th Div were the Div CP, Signal Co, Guard Plt, and the Engr Bn. PW believes the Engr Bn was wiped out.

Equipment:
PW observed 2 × T-34/85 Medium tanks 2 km S of UISONG 19 Sep 50, withdrawing towards UISONG.
The 2nd Co of the Engr Bn was equipped with 2 LMG's, 12 SMG's and the rest of the men were equipped with rifles and 2 hand granades each. The men equipped with LMG and SMG's had 400 rounds of ammunition. The others were given 150 rounds of ammunition.

Dispositions:
The PW last observed the 8th Div CP 4 km SE of UISONG. However, he heard that the CP had moved towards UISONG.

Personalities:
8th Div CG - Mej Gen (少將) O, Paek Yong (吳白龍)
2nd Co, CO - Sr Lt (大尉) CH'OE, Ch'un Gil (崔春吉)

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the troops was low because the regular troops from NORTH KOREA were gradually wiped out and they were replaced by inexperienced troops from the Volunteer Corps. The men have lost all hope of ever winning war.

PW read US propaganda leaflets near UISONG and changed his mind about not surrending to the ROK Forces.

For the Commanding Officer:
