13 Mar 49: Conscripted at LINHSI-HSIEN (林西縣) along with more than 1100 others. All assigned to the 1st, 2d and 3d Bn of the Independent Basic Training Div. PW was assigned to 7th Sqd, 3d Plat, 5th Co, 3d Bn.
5 Apr 49: Departed LINHSI-HSIEN. Accompanied by 1st and 2d Training Bn comprising an independent training division.
17 Apr 49: Arrived PINGCHUAN (平全), MANCHURIA.
17 Apr 49-3 Aug 49: Trained at PINGCHUAN.
3 Aug 49: Departed PINGCHUAN.
13 Aug 49: Arrived CHINCHOU (錦州), MANCHURIA.
13 Aug 49-17 Aug 50: Trained at CHINCHOU.
17 Aug 50: PW Bn ordered to KAIYUAN. Heard that 1st and 2d Bn departed for PEIPING (北京), CHINA.
19 Aug 50: Arrived KAIYUAN (開原), MANCHURIA. At this point, PW training unit redesigned as 3d Sqd, 1st Plat, 2d Co, 1st Bn, 339th Regt, 2d Div, 38th Army, CCF. Entire 38th Army located at KAIYUAN.
19 Aug 50 – 27 Oct 50: Basic training received at KAIYUAN.
27 Oct 50: 38th Army departed KAIYUAN by rail.
29 Oct 50: Arrived CHIAN (輯安), MANCHURIA.

2. TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATION
RAILROADS                MANCHURIA

The railroad from PEIPIAO (北栗) to MUKDEN is a single track standard gauge railroad in good condition. T
he railroad from MUKDEN to SSUPINGCHIEH (四平街) is a double track, standard gauge railroad in good condition.
The railroad from SSUPINGCHIEH to CHIAN is a single track, standard gauge railroad in good condition.

ROADS                   MANCHURIA

There is a good road wide enough for two trucks connecting CHINCHOU (錦州) and PINGCHUAN. (平泉) The road was constructed by the Japanese of compacted rocks.

7. ARMED FORCES
AIRCRAFT                 MANCHURIA

The CCF Air Force utilizes Chinese and Russian manufactured aircraft of all types. There are very few aircraft of Chinese manufacture. In April of 1950, eight hundred Russian-made planes of all types were sent to China by Russia. Russian aviators accompanied the aircraft for the purpose of training Chinese aviators. The planes of the Chinese Air Force bear either the Chinese character(八一). (which is the date and month of Japan surrender in MANCHURIA) or the hammer and sickle.

AIRFIELDS                 MANCHURIA

One of the airfields is situated about two and one-half km outside of the northern city of CHINCHOU. The airfield is very large one. There were about fifteen two-engined combat planes and three-engined cargo planes on the section of the field when the PW visited the filled in Mar 50.
There is another airfield at MUKDEN which is larger than the one at CHINCHOU.
Military supplies are being constantly shipped by air from CHINCHOU to MUKDEN.
LOGISTICS
MUKDEN is the center of all military supplies in MANCHURIA. The supplies come from different part of CHINA to HARBIN (哈爾濱) and MUKDEN (奉天) by rail. There is also a steady inflow of military supplies by aircraft with the planes bearing either the hammer and sickle or the Chinese (八一) insignia.
