CHRONOLOGY:
16 Jan 13 Born at CHINGYUAN-SHENG (淸原縣), MANCHURIA, and attended 3 yrs Elementary School.
Mar 48 Attended the rest of his Elementary School term at TUNGHUA-HSIEN (通化縣), MANCHURIA, and one year of Middle School.
Dec 46 Volunteered for the Korean Volunteer Army of the Chinese Communist Army.
Dec 48 Unit moved to MUKDEN (奉天), MANCHURIA, and was redesignated the 166th Division. PW was attached to the communication unit of the 166th Div, 496th Regt 4th Co, 3d Bn.
26 Jul 49 Moved into SINUIJU (新義州) and was attached to the 6th Div.
2 Aug 49 Departed for SARIWON (沙里院) and received training unit 25 June 50.
11 Oct 50 Captured at YONGWOL(寧越), KOREA.

5. ECONOMICS
Tire Mfg Plant               MUKDEN, MANCHURIA

Location:
Definite location unknown but the plant was located about a 20 minute truck ride north of the main RR station. Speed of truck was unknown.
Name and Description of Plant: (See Sketch)
This plant was called the CHIAOPIKUNGCHUANG (膠皮工場) Tire Mfg Plant by the Manchurians. No numerical designation was known.
Observation:
During period mentioned he worked in this plant as a guard.
Area:
The plant covered an area of approximately 2 km x 2 km, and was enclosed by a 6 meter high brick wall, which was approximately 70 cm thick. The wall was not guarded, but two (2) guards were posted at the main entrance and two (2) roving guards were posted within the installation. It took the guards 30 to 40 minutes to complete one tour.
Unknown factories were observed to the east and north of this installation. A residential section was located to the west and south.
Information Relative to Individual Facilities within the Larger Installation.
Tire Mfg Plant and Textile Plant: A brick building with say tooth type roof and glass windows (skylights). For dimensions, refer to attached sketch. Textiles manufactured here were used in the manufacture of tires. The tires manufactured here were the same as tires and on Japanese trucks. (size unknown) Amount of production was unknown.
Office: A brick building, approximately 400 x 300 x 6 m. The roof was tiled, gable type.
Mess Hall and Guard House: A brick building; approximately 500 x 6 x 6 m. The roof was tile and gable type. This mess hall was for the employees of this plant only. 12 soldiers were stationed at the guard house. These 12 soldiers were replaced every 12 hours and were armed with Russian rifles. Type unknown.
Warehouse: A brick building, approximately 700 x 6 x 10m. The roof was tile, and gable type. Manufactured tires, textiles and thread were stored in this warehouse, but the amount was unknown.
Warehouse: A brick building, approximately 200 x 6 x 10m. The roof was tile, and gable type. Tires, corn, kaoliang, cement and rice were stored in this warehouse, but the amount was unknown.
Warehouse: A brick building, approximately 10 x 100 x 7m. The roof was tile, and gable type. Raw rubber, and an unknown black chemical, used in the Tire Mfg Plant, were stored here, but the amount was unknown.
Boiler Room: A brick building, approximately 80 x 80 x 30 m. The roof was tile and gable type. One concrete smoke-stack, about 20 m high, was observed on the east side of the boiler room. Four (4) horizontal boilers; unknown type, each measuring 10 meters in length and 2.5 meters in diameter were observed. All boilers were in operation 24 hours daily. Bituminous coal was used as fuel. Coal shipment did not arrive on any schedule.
Laborer’s Billets: A brick buildings, approximately 500 x 4 x 10 m. The roof was tile and gable type. An unknown number of skilled workers (male and female) were billeted here.
Laborers Billets and Billets for 4th Co: The same as the laborer’s billets mentioned before in structure and size. 120 soldiers were billeted here.
Employees:
Approximately 1,500 laborers were employed here, on three 8-hour shifts, 6 days a week.
Electricity:
Source of electricity was unknown. But high tension lines were observed leading into the area from the SE corner.
Transportation:
One (1) single track spur line led into the area from the east side.
