3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Oct 45: Enlisted in the CNA. Assigned to 2nd Youth Div at CH’AOSHIH (草市), 50 km S of HSIAN (西安).
1947: Entire CNA unit surrendered to CCF at CH’AOSHIH (草市). Moved to LIUHO (柳河), LAIOTUNG-SHENG Province (遼東省), to undergo 6 months political indoctrination. Conscripted into the CCF 86th Army and assigned to the Liberation Regiment (解放■).
Oct 47: Assigned 2nd Plat, 9th Co, 3rd Bn, 540th Regt, 180th Div, 60th Army, 20th Army Grp, 4th Field Army. Stationed in HSIAN (西安), HSIENG (西豊), P’INGKANG (平■) area for approx 1 year.
Oct 48: Moved to IHSIEN (義■), LIAOHSI-SHENG (遼西省) to engage the CNA. Continued a drive across HUPEI (湖北), HONAN (湖南), HUPEI (湖北), HUNAN (湖南), KWANGHSI (廣西) and KUANGTUNG (廣東), to invade HUINAN Island (海南鳥).
Jun 50: Marched from PEIHAI (北海) (PAKHOI), LUICHOW Peninsula (雷州半岛) to KUANGTUNG (CANTON).
Jul 50: Entrained at KUANGTUNG for move to ANTUNG (安東), LIAOTUNG (遼東). Took approx 2 weeks to make the move.
Jul - Sep 50: Underwent combat training at SHAHOCHEN (沙河■) near ANTUNG (安東).
Mid Sep 50: Entered KOREA in great haste and force marched to UNSAN (雲山) to engage UN Forces.
12 Nov 50: Wounded and captured by UN Forces at YONGBYON (寧邊).

b. Organization of the CCF 20th Army Grp, 4th Field Army:
IN: PW is positive of the above information; however, the information to date indicates 20th Army Group to be comprised to have come to KOREA.

c. Historical Background: (CCF 60th Army)
Reorganized from former CCF 86th Army, about 50% are former CNA elements. Most of the men are natives of SHANTUNG-SHENG (山東省). 86th Army saw some action against the Japanese during World War II. 60th Army follows the CCF 40th Army in the sweep to South CHINA. Except for a brief engagement of 2 days at NAMYANG (南陽), HONAN SHENG (河南省), in Apr 49, 60th Army has not been committed to combat against the CNA.
CG, YANG (fnu) (楊). PW has never seen him but has heard him referred to as “Bald YA■G” (■■■) because of his bald head.

d. Code Name:
FENGTIEN Unit (奉天部).

Generally considered mediocre by the CCF.

Entire army believed to be in KOREA.

i. Personalities of PW Regt:
HSIA (fnu) (夏) (CO 540th Regt), SHANTUNG (山東), over 40. Approx 6 ft, approx 160 lb.
Constantly observed by PW. HSIA was originally Political Commissar of the Regt. Previous commander, name unknown, was a short man and transferred to Div HQ in Jun 50; there-upon, command of the regt was taken over by HSIA (夏).
