Cooperative, but not observant. Information not too reliable.
3 Jan 51, PW and one other ROK soldier were captured by NKA 12th Div at PYONEJAN-NI and were taken to prison camp located approx 20 km N of HONGCHON where he observed approx 30 ROK prisoners and were taught communistic ideals for 15 days. All of them were forced to join 12th NK Div (one man to each Plat).
19 Feb 51 PW and 2 other former ROK soldiers were sent to a hill located approx 32 km E of WONJU where 2nd Bn of 1st Regt, 12th Div was located.
21 Feb 51 while the unit started to withdraw north, PW escaped from them at location approx 4 km N of DS3724, and was captured by UN Forces at DS351-247.
a. Chronology:
19 Feb 51, 2nd Bn consisting of 200 men came to approx vic of DS3724 and dug in on the slope of a hill, on the following night they withdrew NE because of mortar fire. Heard from Palt Ldr that they will withdraw approx 40 km.
b. T/O & E:
Elements of 2nd Bn of 1st Regt, 12th Div, were 4th, 5th Rifle Co and 82 mm mortar Co.
Bn had 3 x 82 mm mortars (30 rd of ammo per), 1 x 60 mm mortar (20 rd ea), 2 HMG (100 rd per), 4 LMG (10,000 rd ea), 5 hand grenades per plat, 8 PPSH SMG with 200 rd ea in each plat, and riflemen had either Soviet rifles, US rifles or carbines.
4 Feb 51, observed approx 50 CCF troops dug in on slope of a hill located approx 20 km E of WONJU.
14 Feb 51, heard fro mSqd Ldr that mission of his bn was to cut the MSR.
c. Ammo:
4 Feb 51 received 100 rd of rifle ammo at a location approx 20 km N of WONJU.
d. Food:
Obtained from villages was insufficient.
e. Clothing:
Everyone wore winter uniforms.
f. Physical Condition:
Good.
g. Medical:
Did not hear of nor observe any contagious diseases.
h. Morale:
Low, because of arty and air bombardment.
