a. Chronology
Volunteered into AA 6th Regt of CNA Dec 46 at SHENYANG, MANCHURIA.
Dec 48, captured and conscripted into CCF 50th Army, 150th Div, 450th Regt, 1st Bn, 3rd Co, 2nd Plat, 6th Sqd.
Oct 50, 1st Bn of 450th Regt departed MANCHRIA on foot, crossing the RR Bridge of the YALU River arriving at YANGJI-RI (CS4822) 20 Jan 51, via ANTUNG, SINUIJU, CHOLSAN, NAMSI-DONG, SINAN-JU and SEOUL.
Upon arrival at YANGJI-RI, 3rd Co received order from the 1st Bn Hq to guard the RR Station and the main road leading to the RR Station. 26 Jan 51, 2nd Co of 1st Bn, stationed S of YANGJI-RI, was attacked by UN Forces which causes the entire 1st Bn to withdraw southward. Marching for approx 6 nights, they arrived at mountain (place of capture (CS418352)) 31 Jan 51.
1 Feb 51, 1st Bn was again attacked by the UN Forces. Engagement lasted until 4 Feb 51, when PW surrendered to the UN Forces.
b. Organization and Strength (Present)
50th Army was under 4th Field Army. 50th Army had three Div, of which only the 150th Div was identified by the PW.
150th Div had 448th, 449th, and 450th Regt and guard, arty, recon, engineer, propaganda, supply, and political companies.
450th Regt had three Bn and Recon, stretcher, propaganda, first aid, and signal companies.
Three companies and one HMG Co composed the 1st Bn.
3rd Co had 130 troops 31 Jan 51; after the attack by the UN Forces 1 Feb 51, believes strength of 3rd Co diminished to approx 50 men.
c. Deployment of PW Own Unit
3rd Co CP located approx 60 m N of Hill 497 (CS398367), at the food of the hill. 1st Co CP located on the left flank of 3rd Co CP, approx 1km E of Hill 498.
1st Bn CP located further north of 3rd Co CP and communication maintained by telephone.
The assigned sector of 50th Army believed to be to the W of Hill 497 (CS398367).
d. Deployment of Other Units
Heard from other troops that 38th Army located 7km east of Hill 497.
e. Status of Arms, Ammo, Supply and Equipment
The present status of ammo and arms in 3rd Co as follows:

Received no resupply of arms, ammo, or equipment.
All troops except 6, in PW Co received a pair of rubber shoes and socks (cotton) 30 Jan 51 at Hill 497. This was the first supply of clothes received since entering KOREA. Shoes and socks came from CHINA.
All food such as rice, potatoes, beans, and pork meat obtained locally.
f. Mission and Intention
Mission was to stop the UN Forces before they conquer CHINA and later the USSR. Told by his Co CO that their mission is to liberate KOREA during coming spring offensive with support of air and navy.

4 troops sick (frostbite, stomach trouble, and cold).
i. Effect of UN Air
1st Bn received three air attacks since entering KOREA. PW Co sustained no casualties except 4 Feb 51 when 5 men were killed.
j. Propaganda and/or Surrender Leaflet
Saw surrender leaflet in the vicinity of Hill 497, which led to his surrender.
Heard a propaganda broadcast 4 Feb 51 in the vicinity of Hill 497. 3rd Co heard the broadcast clearly.
It was:
“To the Chinese Communist Troops in KOREA! Why are you fighting in KOREA? You are used as puppets for RUSSIA. Why must you die for RUSSIA. Surrender immediately to the UN Forces, medical attention will be given to sick and wounded, you will be supplied food and clothing upon surrender. Your life is guaranteed to be safe.”
PW believes that more frequent broadcasts would be quite effective.
