PW surrendered to UN troops because he was disgusted with the food, clothing, and supply situation. He was also fed-up with the political and psychological training they were forced to take every morning.

b. Unit Location:
(1) 445th Regt: Was dug in along the SE slope of Hill 319, midway between the summit and the foot of the hill. The 1st Bn was on the W flank, the 2nd Bn in the middle and the 3rd Bn was on the E flank.
(2) 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn Hq: The Hq for these three bn were located about 300 meters behind their respective units.
c. Unit Mission:
The mission of the 445th Regt was to secure positions on the SE slope of Hill 319 and cover the road passing along the SE foot of the hill.
