1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was a slow talker and seems to be confused. Places travelled in North KOREA and MANCHURIA were unknown. Since PW cannot understand characters and in that the spoken language was difficult to the interpreter, picture illustrations were employed during interrogation. Report does not seem reliable.

There were no North Korean personnel in PW’s unit before and after crossing the YALU River. However, there was one (1) CCF officer who spoke fluent Korean with the PW’s Co. PW’s unit was intact and under the same chain of command now as it was prior to crossing the YALU.
PW’s unit had not been integrated into North Korean units.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (as of 21 Nov 50)
PW did not know why he came into Korea nor the unit’s mission.
Four Soldiers, who were ill, lagged behind their Company which was advancing to an unknown area. These soldiers were separated from their company. They were captured on 24 Nov 50 by American troops.
Whereabouts of the unit was unknown.
PW did not know what other CCF units came to Korea.
Defense positions were not constructed by PW’s unit while travelling south from the YALU River.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted in Aug 48 into the NCA 1st Division, 3rd Regt, 4th Bn, 7th Co at SZECHWAN SHENG, TA-CHU HSIEN (四川省 大竹縣)
Received 1 year of infantry training at SZECHWAN (四川).
Fought the CCF at SZECHWAN and was captured on Dec 49 by the CCF 50th Army and immediately placed into the 50th Army, 148th Div, 442nd Regt, 3rd Bn, 9th Co.
9th Co left SZECHWAN in Dec 49 by foot and arrived at HOPEH (湖北) in Jan 50. Here the troops were engaged in cultivating land.
9th Co left HOPEH in Aug 50 by foot, walking for 5 days and riding on a train for 5 days. It arrived at an unknown place in MANCHURIA in Sep 50.
At this unknown place, soldiers again cultivated land. After staying here for approx 15 days, the 9th Co left on 25 Oct 50 by train and arrived at the YALU River on 26 Oct 50.
PW actually saw only his Co walk across a steel bridge over the YALU River on 26 Oct 50. (Exact point of crossing unknown).
PW stated that he heard that the entire 442nd Regt came into Korea.
Places travelled in Korea were unknown.
PW did not see other CCF units during his travels in Korea.
PW’s unit did not participate in the HAINAN Island invasion.

7. ARMOR & ARTILLERY:
PW stated that he did not see any tanks or artillery before and after crossing the YALU River.

8. FOOD & AMMUNITION SUPPLIES:
Before crossing the YALU River, 3 days ration was issued to the troops.
After their ration was consumed, the PW saw one truck and one wagon loaded with food enter his company area (time & location unknown).
Source of ammo and food supplies was unknown.

9. SIGNAL COMMUNICATION:
Communication between Bn to Company - - Messenger
Communication between Co to Platoon - - Messenger

10. MORALE:
In PW’s platoon, the troops usually ask about when they will return to China, and when will the war end.

11. GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW was not a volunteer for Korean services nor was his unit.
PW’s unit did not undergo any amphibious training.
PW did not know of the Iron and Steel Brigade.
There were no Japanese units in the CCF.
PW did not know if the CCF has Militia and Public Security Units in addition to its regular troops.
PW received 50,000 Yuan per month.
Plat Ldr received 100,000 Yuan per month.
PW did not know of any CCF units with Soviet equipment.
PW did not receive any paratroop training nor did he hear of paratroopers in the CCF.
While in Korea, troops slept in quarters crudely constructed with corn stalks.
