The orders for the Communist propaganda in the 166th Division were received from higher Hqs. Source unknown. An order was accompanied by information which was supposed to be used for propaganda purposes. The information was translated and mimeographed and distributed to the political director who was assigned to each company.
The political directors held a political hour 5 days a week, lasting 1 to 2 hours each day. The director would read the information then explain it. The following day he would conduct a discussion hour on the subject taught on the previous day. Those who did not join in the discussion were reprimanded, so everyone remembered something to say at the discussion.
On Saturdays, the director would read the Chinese newspaper in the Korean language. The newspaper criticized President Truman severely in regards to US aggression towards weak nations. PW also heard about General TITO and Communist activities in East GERMANY. No detailed news were given on KOREA except that it was separated at the 38° parallel and that the southern part was being taken over by the Americans.
The subjects taught in the political hours were taken from books titled the “History of the World Evolution” and the “Common Sense of Politics”. The following topics were discussed:
Primitive life.
Slave life.
Feudalistic life.
Capitalistic life.
Imperialistic Life.
Socialism and life in Communism.
