FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 0014) 13 October 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Despite the fact that the PW was in poor physical condition, he was very cooperative and tried to be helpful. Information in this report was believed to be reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
Observation:
The PW served as a truck driver in the Transportation Bn, 46th Corps Hq in PEICHEN CCF during the period Sep 1948 to Feb 1950.

Location:
The 46th Corps Hq, CCF was located at PEICHEN (北鎭) in MANCHURIA. The PW heard from a member of the CCF that 46th Corps Hq was formerly located at CHIT’UNG, N CHINA. (冀東)

General Information:
The 46th Corps was composed of 136th, 137th and 138th Divisions. 136th Div Hq was located in the town of HEISAN (黑山), 137th Div Hq was at a point 20km NE of PE CHEN (北鎭) and 138th Div Hq at 100km SW of MUKDEN. PEICHEN was located approx 120km NW of MUKDEN.
Food such as KAOLIANG, rice, wheat, etc was shipped in by rail to the HSINLITS’UN (新立村). Source of food was not known but was heard to be shipped in from HARBIN (哈爾濱) Average of 15 to 20 freight cars loaded with food was unloaded twice a month at the HSINLITS’UN RR station. Unloaded food was transported to the 46th Corps Hq by the Transportation Bn and distributed to the divisions. Since there were no warehouses the food was temporarily stored in houses. Military clothing was also stored in houses. PW estimated that there were total of 30 local wooden houses utilized as warehouses. These warehouses were spaced 20 to 30 meters apart.
Ammunition, which was believed to be shipped in by rail from MUTAN CHUAN (牡丹江) was attacked in open lots in the town of PEICHEN. PW estimated that there were about 20 to 30 lots stacked with ammo. Ammo was in boxes which varied from 45cm x 25cm x 20cm to as large as 60cm x 30cm x 25cm. Type of ammunition was not known. He estimated that about 30 boxes were in each open lot.

Equipment:
Equipment in the divisions was not known but PW observed about 15 x 122mm Howitzers in the town of PEICHEN. While he was stationed at PEICHEN he neither observed nor heard firing of weapons. However, simulated firing practice was conducted frequently.

Troops:
PW stated that troops of the 46th Corps were all veterans of two to three years service. There was a Medical Bn directly attached to the 46th Corps Hq. The Medical Bn was staffed with three Japanese doctors, former civilian doctors in MANCHURIA. He only recalled two of the doctors’ names, KANEYAMA and KUREMOTO. Personal history of these doctors were not known. He stated that these doctors were well treated and highly respected by the troops.
As of Feb 50 there were 26 Koreans in the 46th Corps. These Koreans were assembled at CHENG-CHOU (鄭州) with 3,000 other Koreans in MANCURIA and Shipped to N KOREA in Mar 50 designated as the 15th Ind Div.
