2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed of average intelligence and was cooperative. Fairly reliable. Education - 6 years. Physical Condition - Good.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
10 Aug 50 - Inducted at HAMHUNG and assigned to the 578th Unit, 76mm Gun Co. Received military training for a month.
29 Sep 50 - The 578th Unit left HAMHUNG and arrived at SINKOSAN (新高山) on 6 Oct 50.
7 Oct 50 - PW deserted when he was guarding a tunnel in which artillery, food and ammunition were hidden. Prior to his desertion, the Unit had never engaged in battle.
24 Oct 50 - PW arrived at his home in SANG WON CHON (上元川) and was hiding there until his capture on 21 Nov 50.

4. ORGANIZATION:
The 578th Unit was organized at HAMHUNG on or about 10 Aug 50 with new inductees. Purpose of activating this unit was to defend HAMHUNG City.
The 578th Unit was composed of 3 Infantry Battalions, 1x76mm Artillery Company, 1x45mm Artillery Company, 1x120mm Mortar Company, 1 Communication Company, 1 Supply Company, 1 Medical Company, 1 Reconnaissance Platoon and 1 Guard Platoon.

5. STRENGTH:
Original strength of the 578th Unit was estimated at approximately 2,000.
76mm Artillery Company - 78 men.
45mm Artillery Company - 60 men.
120mm Mortar Company - 60 men.

6. WEAPONS:
In the 578th Unit there were 2x76mm Russian field artillery guns, 6x45mm Anti-tank guns M1931, 4x120mm M1938 Regimental Mortars, and an unknown number of 7.62mm “DEGTYAREV” DP Light Machine Guns.
1/3 of the troops were equipped with 7.62mm “MOSSIN NAGANT” M1891/30 Rifles. Most officers were equipped with PPSH submachine guns.

7. CODE NAME:
The 76mm Company was called “NAK TONG GANG” (洛東江).

8. PERSONALITY:

9. GUERRILLA MOVEMENT:
PW observed approximately 100 guerrillas from the Security Forces at YONGHUNG (永興) on 15 Oct 50 while on the way home from SINGOSAN.
