3. MILITARY HISTORY:5 Jul 50 - Inducted into the Army at PYONGYANG and shipped to NANAM (羅南) by train.
8 Jul 50 - Reached NANAM and assigned to the 568th Inf Unit, 2nd Bn, 6th Co, 2nd Plat.
Received approx 2 weeks of basic training.
Because of aerial attacks the 2nd Bn of the 568th Unit (400 men) moved to the hills. O/a 5 Oct 50 the 568th Unit left NANAM and reached KILCHU (吉州) by train.
They then walked to KAPSAN (甲山).
30 Oct 50 - Reached KAPSAN and as the unit was heading for PUNGSAN (豐山) PW deserted.
7 Nov 50 - Hearing that the UN Army was in YONCHONG NI, PW surrendered.
4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:PW saw a USSR HQ at NANAM where there were about 8 Russian officers, and 15 Russian EM. Also saw these Russian officers advising the Korean officers on military training. (Obs - 8 Jul 50 to 5 Oct 50)
5. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:The 2nd Bn was composed of the 4th, 5th and 6th Inf Cos. In Aug 50 the 5th Co was replaced by a Mortar Co of 50 men. This change reduced the strength of the Bn to about 400 men.
The 4th and 6th Cos' weapons included 5 HMGs, 1 LMG and 2 PPSH guns in addition to rifles. (obs - Jul 50 to Aug 50)
6. ARMOR:PW saw approx 10/T-34 Med tanks in the hills about 5km W of central NANAM. He heard these tanks operating at night for a period of 5 days while his unit was in the area.
