CONSOLIDATED REPORT OF PRISONERS OF WAR INTERROGATION

Information from the following PsW from the 776 Navy Unit is reported in response to a special EEI, COMNAVFE, RE Amphib Landing by 776 Unit from CHONGJIN to ODAEJIN.

Time and Place:
040100 Nov 50 - departed CHONGJIN.
040530 Nov 50 - arrived ODAEJIN.

Type of Ships:
4 former Jap wooden fishing crafts.
Tonnage: 18-20 Tons.
Speed: 5-6 knots,
length: 20-25 M
Engine : Hot Bulb (loud noise)

Time required to load:
Approx 2 hrs (in total darkness due to blackout restrictions).

Time required to debark and unload:
30 minutes.

Personnel and Type of Cargo:
100-150 men per ship.
3 ships loaded with personnel and personal equipment (rifle w/150 rds and 2 hand grenades per man).
1 ship loaded with personnel and personal equipment, 4/82MM mortars w/70 boxes (10 rds per box), 15/HMGs w/30 boxes of ammo (600 rds per box).
Total number of personnel: approx 500. No other equipment, supplies or food.

Route of Travel:
Along coastline (exact course unknown due to total darkness).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The 776 Unit was originally scheduled to go by truck to KILCHU, but plan was changed due to lack of trucks, They were told that they were going to reinforce the 507 Unit as reserves and not as assault troops.
Heard from one of the ship captain that his ship was loaded down with sea mines which were sowed the night before (2-3 Nov 50). Location of area not mentioned.
Heard from ship's crew that the 4 ships came from UNGGI.
3rd Bn, 41st Div (regt unk) (all recruits), arrived CHONGJIN from NANAM o/a 15 Oct 50, and was still there on 3 Nov 50.
About a Co of troops with 3-4/76 MM guns of the 507 Unit located on Hill 183 (Komal San) at Chongjin - 3 Nov 50.
Heard that the Naval Officers’ Candidate School was to move to SANSAM BONG.

FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
Russian advisors (approx 10 Co grade off and 50 EM) lived in RR tunnels with 776 Unit during period Sep to 21 Oct 50. Tunnels located in vicinity of Hill 372, S of TOMAK TONG (6 Kms N of CHONGJIN). All Russians returned to USSR through UNGGI, o/a 21 Oct 50. (hearsay from Russian speaking Korean officers). Signal and gasoline trucks used by Russians left behind and distributed to Units in CHONGJIN-NANAM area.
