FIELD REPORT (164 MISDI - 1335) 14 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: YU, In Yong (柳仁永) (유인영)
RANK: Pvt (戰士)
ORGN: 14th Div, 27th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sqd
DUTIES: Rifleman
EDUCATION: 3 yrs (Middle School)
AGE: 19
OCCUPATION: Farmer
ADDRESS: KANGWON-DO, YANGGU-GUN, TONG-MYON, SOKHWARI (江原道 陽口郡 東面 石花里)
DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 090100 I Jan 51 at an unk place

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in bad condition at the time of this interrogation.
Information is limited because of PW’s short period of military service.
Information does not seem too reliable.

3. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW and a group of approximately 200 men were conscripted into the NKA at YANGGU (DT0817) 15 Dec 50. Without receiving any training, PW and the group departed from YANGGU on foot and arrived at HONGCH’ON (DS0372) 30 Dec 50. Upon arrival, they were assigned to the 27th Regt of the 14th Div.
After travelling approximately 80 Km South from HONGCH’ON, the PW’s 1st Company was attacked by UN troops 9 Jan 51.
During the attack, PW was shot on his thigh and captured by US troops 090100 Jan 51. (Place of capture unknown.)

4. REPLACEMENTS:
PW stated that the group of 200 men who came with him was believed to be the replacements for the 14th Div, 27th Regt at HONGCH’ON on 30 Dec 50.
PW stated that they were issued small arms when they crossed the 38th Parallel on the latter part of Dec 50. (Date and place unknown.)
PW believed that most of them had never been in actual combat nor had they undergone training.

5. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was confiscated from nearby villages while advancing.

6. MORALE:
Morale was low among troops because the most of them were untrained and forced to march at night.

7. COMMUNICATION:
Field telephones were used for communication above the company level.

8. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
