ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3000 24 January 1951
FIELD REPORT (25 Div - Un numbered) 10 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: WHANG Chang

UNIT: CCF 50th Army, 148th Div, 14th Regt (Code Designation), 3rd Bn, MG Co.

2. ASSESSMENT:
During interrogation PW started to weep when accused of lying. PW was very cooperative, but had little information. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL:
PW conscripted in MANCHURIA Aug 50.
148th Div entered KOREA 2 months ago. 149th Div entered KOREA at the same time. Since entering KOREA does not know the whereabouts of the other two PWs of the 50th Army. O/a 21 Dec 50 148th Div proceeded around P’YONGYANG; did not pass through the city for fear of air attacks. PW and a companion fell behind their unit o/a 1 Jan 51 due to illness. PW developed severe stomach and chest pains due to the cold and lack of food. PW estimates 10 to 20 men in every Platoon are ill because of exposure and lack of food. PW claims he has malaria (PW shivered in the heated interrogation room). PW estimates 20% of his unit had malaria.
PW had in his possession two small booklets of music giving bugle calls. These will be forwarded with PW.
PW was carrying a flare pistol and 5 rounds green and 8 rounds red. Officers give the signals. Flare signals:
2 red and 1 green - Assemble this area
1 green - Retreat
Normally signals given by bugle calls. Flares used when bugles are impractical. Flares not used to signal attack. Flare code changed about once a week.
