1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative. PW was suffering from a double fracture of the right leg due to small arms’ bullets.
PW is illiterate, is unfamiliar with the organization and activities of his unit, and is unable to recall what route his regt took from its place of activation to his present location.
Information, although somewhat limited, does seem reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH: (as of 13 Jan 51)
The 67th Regt is composed of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bns, Reconnaissance Co, and Medical Plat.
The 1st Bn is composed of Heavy Weapons Co plus an unknown number of Rifle Companies.
The Heavy Weapons Co is composed of the 1st (Mortar) Plat and 2nd (HMG) Plat.
Mortar Plat is composed of 2 sqds with approx 9 men per squad.
HMG Plat is composed of 3 Squads with 8 men per squad.

PW stated that although his platoon was termed the Mortar Plat, it had no mortars.

PW stated that the HMG Plat had no HMGs.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (as of 13 Jan 51)
The 67th Regt CP was located in the mountains approx 6 Km due north of WONJU.
The mission of the 1st Bn, 67th Regt was to assist unidentified NKA units in defense of WONJU against any UN attacks that might be made on the city.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was inducted into the 7th NKA Div 19 Jul 50 at KAESONG (BT 8505). He received no military training.
PW departed from KAESONG 21 Jul 50, marched with the 7th Div via the following route:

During Sep 50, PW departed from the CHINJU vicinity when the NKA retreated to North KOREA. He became separated from his unit during the rout of the NKA and walked with 2 other NKA EM over the TAEBAEK SAN mountain range until he joined thousands of fleeing NKA soldiers where the TAEBAEK SAN mountain range crosses the 38th Parallel. He marched with these thousands of NKA soldiers to the mountains approx 12 Km northeast of SAMDUNG (BU5620) where he was assigned to the 43rd Div which was in the process of activation. O/a 10 Dec 50, personnel of the division were issued winter uniforms, the source of which PW did not know.
O/a 12 Dec 50, PW departed from the mountains approx 12 Km northeast of SAMDUNG, marched with the 67th Regt of the 43rd Div and arrived at WONJU 13 Jan 51. PW does not know the route that his regt took from SAMDUNG to WONJU, his regiment marched at night only. During the daytime personnel slept in villages enroute to WONJU.
13 Jan 51, US units attacked the 1st Bn, 67th Regt, in the vicinity of WONJU. PW was wounded by small arms fire and abandoned by his battalion when it was forced to withdraw. He was captured 131600 I Jan 51.

7. REPLACEMENTS:
As of 13 Jan 51, the 67th Regt of the 43rd Div had received no replacements.

8. ARMOR AND ARTILLERY:
Observed none but it was rumored among the men of the 67th Regt that tanks would soon reinforce the NKA.

9. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
While the 67th Regt was in the mountains approx 12 Km northeast of SANDUNG, its personnel received three meals daily. Rations consisted of rice which was delivered daily by details sent from the 67th Regt to confiscate the rice from the residents of neighboring villages.
Since departing from SAMDUNG o/a 12 Dec 50, personnel received an average of two rice balls daily. This rice was confiscated from farmers in villages through which the 67th Regt passed.

10. MORALE:
Because 67th Regt personnel are under armed, their morale is low.

11. US PsW:
Observed 3 US PsW 060900 I Jan 51, approx 6 Km South of WONJU. These US PsW were guarded by two NKA EM and were walking along the railroad track toward WONJU.
During Nov 50, the Plat Ldr of the Mortar Plat, Heavy Weapons Co, 1st Bn, 67th Regt instructed his men not to mistreat US PsW in the event of capturing them. These instructions, according to the Plat Ldr, were in accordance with an order from North Korean Premier, General KIM, Il Song (김일성).

12. CCF:
When the 67th Regt departed from SAMDUNG o/a 12 Dec 50, they were joined by an estimated division of CCF troops. These CCF troops marched with the 67th Regt until the regiment reached CH’ORWON (CT 4335) o/a 30 Dec 50. Thereafter the 67th Regt proceeded alone and PW does not know what happened to the CCF troops.

13. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW did not surrender voluntarily. Upon being wounded, he was abandoned by his unit and captured because he was unable to walk.
