During Nov 47, the CNA 60th Army was captured or had surrendered and the designation of that unit had been altered to the CCF 50th Army without any change of personnel. The weapons and equipment used now, are those that were sent to CHIANG Kai Shek from the UNITED STATES.

A convoy of trucks, arriving with ammo for his unit, was destroyed o/a 3 Jan 51 in an unknown area by a US air strike.

8. MORALE:
Many have lost the will to fight, due to frequent intense aerial attacks.
Morale was further lowered by frequent long night marches and inactivity during the day.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW surrendered voluntarily. He has an older brother in the Chinese Nationalist Forces, serving as a battalion commander. PW was conscripted into the CCF against his will. Disliking the CCF, and being physically weak, the PW surrendered to an unknown US Unit. PW was asked if he weren’t afraid of being killed by the Americans if captured. He replied that he has heard much from his older brother of the good treatment rendered PW’s by the Americans and that they did not kill PW’s.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets, or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. Yes. PW could not read it but was told the contents of the leaflet by another soldier.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. The contents stated: “The Russians are in the back of this war and neither the Russians nor the CCF will profit by this war. The Americans have better equipment and many soldiers, so surrender at your first opportunity”.
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. PW stated that he believed the contents of the leaflets.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcast? What did they say or do?
a. A few soldiers were overheard debating whether they should take a chance and surrender to the UN Forces.
