2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative. Possessed only limited information. Reliability, fair.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
Sep 44 – PW at the age of 15 went to SO-SAN-TSU (小山子), MANCHURIA as machine operator for rice mill. After 6 months he left his employment at his own will. He obtained a job as a coo’s apprentice in a Chinese restaurant in WUCHANG (五常) and held it until Apr 46.
11 Feb 46 – Volunteered for Chinese 8th Route Army and was assigned to 359th Brigade, 3d Regt, M-92 Arty Co, Strength, approx. 10,000. 359th Brigade was composed of 9 Regt with 1,000 men per Regt.
PW and approx. 500 new conscripts were attached to above unit in SAN-HU-TUNG (山河屯). No training of any kind was given to the conscripts.
Sep 48 – Arrived in SHIN-KAI-YEN (新開原) where 359th Brigade was reorganized and reinforcements were received to bring the personnel up to Divisional strength. PW was transferred to 4th Field Army, 47th Army, Mountain Bn, as an artillery observer. He was taught to use the range-finder by a Japanese instructor. The instruments were of US and Japanese make. The 47th Corps established their Hq in SHIN-KAI-YEN. 6,000 men were stationed here and performed garrison duty.
The 47th Army, 4th Field Army consisted of 139th Div. and 139th Arty Div. 140th Div. and 140th Div. Arty, and 141st Div. and 141st Div. Arty. 4th Field Army was under the command of Gen LIN, HO (林虎), age 37. Army engaged in battle in numerous places with Gen CHIANG-KAI-SHEK’s Nationalist Army.
Dec 49 – Arrived in CHANG-DOU, CHINA after Gen CHIANG-KAI-SHEK retreated toward Chinese homeland. Remained here approx. 4 months and performed garrison duties. Here the Communists conscripted students from high schools and colleges for training as artillery men and range finder operators.
Apr 50 – PW and 1,100 Koreans of 47th Army were sent back to KOREA by order issued by 8th Route Army Hq. Arrived in HWAN HAE-TO (黃海道), N. KOREA and was assigned to 4th Div, 18th Regt.
Remarks: CCF had 8,000,000 well-trained and equipped troops. By the end of 1950, they proposed to have 10,000,000 men or more in arms.
