ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative, and spoke freely. Intelligent, and could estimate distance and direction fairly accurate. Memory seemed to be fairly good and he was sincere. Information is considered fairly reliable.

CHRONOLOGY:
8 Nov 47 - Forced to join the Northeastern People’s Liberation Army (東北人民解放軍) at HARBIN (哈爾賓) MANCHURIA.
Assigned to the 11th Div, 2d Regt, 1st Co, 2d Sqd.
8 Nov 47 - 20 Jul 48 - Engaged in field training.
20 Jul 48 - Departed HARBIN (哈爾賓) MANCHURIA.
23 Jul 48 - Arrived NANAM (羅南) KOREA. Upon arriving NANAM, the Northeastern People’s Liberation Army 11th Div was redesignated the People’s Army (人民軍) 5th Div.
Assigned to the 5th Div, 11 Regt, 120 mm Arty Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sqd.
23 Jul 48 - 25 Jun 50 - Engaged in artillery training.
25 Jun 50 - Departed NANAM (羅南) KOREA.

7. ARMED FORCES
AIRFIELD                HARBIN (哈爾賓) MANCHURIA

Location:
Approx 3,000 m north of the HARBIN RR Station.
Observation:
Observed this airfield twice while passing along the road which runs 400 m NW of the airfield.
Area:
The airfield covers an area of about 1,000 m x 2,000 m enclosed by a 3 m high electric fence.
The airfield was rectangular and grassy.
Runway:
There were two (possibly three) runways running parallel NNE to SSW.
Runways were about 100 m x 1,000 m.
Hangars:
There were two hangars at the eastern corner of the airfield.
Saw these hangars from a distance of about 1,000 m so could not give the sizes. They were galvanized iron buildings with gable type roofs.
Entrance:
Saw one entrance at the SSW side of the airfield.
Guard:
There was one guard with a rifle at this entrance.
Saw 5 planes (believed to be fighters) at the SE side of the airfield. Saw these planes from a distance of about 1,300 m so could not give detailed description.

ANTI-AIRCRAFT POSITION        SANKOSHU (三棵樹) MANCHURIA

Location:
Approx 1,200 m NE of SANKOSHU RR Station.
Observation:
Observed the anti-aircraft position while passing along the road 100 m south of the position during May 47.
Anti-aircraft Guns:
There were 3 anti-aircraft guns, 100 m apart. These guns were in the KAOLIANG (高梁) Field so he could only see 1 m of the barrel.
Estimates the caliber of these guns to be about 70 mm.

FORMER CHINESE COMMUNIST UNIT:
11th Div, Northeastern People’s Liberation Army (東北人民解放軍).
Mortar Co:
There were two sqds to a plat. Each sqd consisted of 12 men.
There were 3, 97 (sic) mm mortars, 11 pistols and 60 single shot rifles in the Mortar Co.

UNIT COMPLEMENT TRANSFERRED TO KOREA:
The entire unit came to KOREA and was redesignated the People’s Army (人民軍) 5th Div.

OTHER CCF UNITS IN KOREA:
The Northeastern People’s Liberation Army 166th Div came to KOREA at the same time as the 11th Div and was redesignated the People’s Army 6th Div.

RECRUITING PROGRAM:
An officer from a certain unit went to each village where there were men 19 years of age or over and recruited them.

CCF MOVE TO MANCHURIA:
CCF troops started moving to MANCHURIA about Nov 45.
