FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS 0184)　5 December 1950

PW was not cooperative.

Due to his short period of Internment at LUNGCHING(龍井), MANCHURIA, PW did not remember much information. He could not estimate distance and dimensions and his memory was poor. Reliability - Poor.

Jan 21 – Born at HAMGYONG PUKTO, HOERYONG-GUN (咸鏡北道 會寧郡), KOREA.

Apr 34 – Graduated from Elementary School. Worked at a Drug Store for about one year.

Sep 35 – Worked at a Japanese food store in HOERYONG (會寧), Korea for about four years.

Dec 40 – Worked at a tailor shop in HOERYONG (會寧), Korea.

Nov 46 – Moved to LUNGCHING (龍井), MANCHURIA. Worked as a tailor.

Dec 47 – Returned to HOERYONG (會寧), KOREA.

Aug 50 – Conscripted into the North Korean Army at JUUL(矢乙), KOREA and assigned to the 226th Unit.

Aug 50 - Arrived P’YONGYANG (平壤). Issued a weapon and uniform.

Sep 50 – Arrived SUWON (水原), KOREA

24 Sep 50 – Captured at SUWON (水原), KOREA, by ROK Army

Location:

Approx 2km W of the LUNGCHING(龍井), RR Station and immediately north of a LUNGCHING Public Park. (See attached sketch)

Observation:

PW, while passing by on a road in LUNGCHING, observed a RR steel trestle twice at a distance of approx 30m.

River:

The river which the RR steel trestle spanned was called the HAILAN(海浪) River by the inhabitants of LUNGCHING. The river flowed from west to east.

Width of river - Approx. 100m

Depth of river - Approx 1m

Description of Bridge:

Hearsay:

PW was heard from a Korean, KIM, Hyong Sun (金洪順), whose home was located in the vicinity of LUNGCHING, that there was an oil well near LUNGCHING. He told PW that oil wells were discovered in the middle part of 1947 by a Korean prospector in a rocky hill, as shown in attached sketch.

A Rocky Hill was located approx 16 km SW of the LUNGCHING City and approx. 18km SE of the RR steals trestle, as described in attached sketch. It was also located approx 8km N of a village which was called ORANKEIEN (寿巖).

About 150m-200m high above ground level

Approx 45º angle steep

According to hearsay, napthens crude oil was discovered. Further details concerning the oil well were unknown.
