2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed cooperative but was unobservant and possessed little information due to his poor memory and lack of education. Information considered not too reliable.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
1936: Went to SSUTAOKOU (四道淸) MANCHURIA and was engaged in farming until 15 Aug 48.
15 Aug 48: Conscripted into the 8th Route Army at HUATIEN (燁旬) and assigned to the Independent 5th Div.
Aug 48: Received basic training in YENTUNGSHAN (煙筒山) for a month.
22 Oct 48: Engaged in maneuvers in preparation for combat against the Chinese Nationalist Forces.
28 Oct 48: Fought against Chinese Nationalist forces at KOUSIEN (口前).
Nov 48 – 16 Feb 50: Arrived CHANGGHUN (長春) in Jan 49 via CHILIN (吉林) and assigned to patrol the Div Hq Area.
16 Feb 50: Unit was reorganized. Koreans formed into a separate unit.
25 Feb 50: The reorganized Korean Troops (2 Regt) departed CHANGGHUN (長春) by rail.
15 Mar 50: Arrived WONSAN (元山). Received combat training for a month. One regiment of Korean troops was added to the unit. The unit was called the 7th Division.
20 Jun 50: Left for CHUNC’HON (春川) by rail.
24 Jun 50: Arrived CHUNC’HON (春川).
28 Jun 50: 7th Div departed CHUNC’HON (春川).
19 Aug 50: Arrived KIGEMYON (杞溪面) by foot via CHUNGCHU (忠州), ANDONG (安東), and POHANG (浦項).
20 Aug 50: Captured at KIGE-MYON (杞溪面) by ROK Army.

ARMED FORCES:
Independent 5th Div Hq    CHANGGHUN (長春) MANCHURIA
Pvt             D/O Nov 48 – Feb 50
The Div Hq was located on the outskirts of CHANGGHUN (長春) approx 10 km NW of the CHANGGHUN (長春) RR Station. PW was stationed in the Hq area as a guard during the above mentioned period.
The Hq covered an area of approx 800 m x 600 m but the area was not enclosed.
PW stated that there were 3 brick barracks measuring about 20 m x 50 m x 10 m situated here and were occupied by the troops. PW claims some 3,000 (?) soldiers were quartered in each barrack. Shelf-like beds were built in the barracks and soldiers rolled into a cotton quilt and slept on the floor.
The Hq building was a 2 story brick building with a flat roof measuring about 25 m x 15 m x 20 m. Interior details were not known. According to hearsay, WANG, Ching E (王淸伊) was the Lt Gen in charge of this Hq.
An unknown number of communications units were said to be stationed in the Hq. 2 steel wireless poles about 20 m in height were situated approx 15 m away from the building.
Further details were not known.

4. FORMER CCF UNITS:
PW was attached to the CCF 7th Div, 2d Regt, 2d Bn, 4th Co (Sic), 3d Plat, during the period of 15 Aug 48 – 25 Aug 50. The organization of the unit was as follows:
Company – Composed of 3 platoons commanded by 3 officers (2d Lt). Each platoon was composed of 40 troops. 6 light machine guns (US-make) and 2 Japanese-make knee mortars were provided in each company.
Battalion – Composed of 4 companies and the Bn Hq. There were 4 officers (rank unknown) in the Hq. A communications unit, consisting of 10 troops, was also attached to this Hq.
Equipment – 10 heavy machine guns (US-make)
4 mortars (US-make)
This equipment was confiscated from the Chinese Nationalist forces.
Regiment – Regiment was composed of 3 Bn and the Regt Hq. There were 4 officers (rank unknown).
Division – Composed OF 3 Regt and Div Hq. An artillery bn equipment with mountain guns (type unknown) was attached to the Hq.
