ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and answered immediately when questioned. His memory appeared to be fairly good. He had fairly good judgment of distance and direction and was sincere. Reliability – Good.

1 Apr 48 – Volunteered for the Manchurian Army at CHILIN-SHENG (吉林省), MANCHURIA. Assigned to Northeastern People’s Liberation Army (東北人民解放軍), 4th Field Army, Transportation Unit, Guard Regt, 3d Bn, 10th Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sqd at CHILIN (吉林), MANCHURIA.
4 Apr 48-Jul 48 – Engaged in field training.
Jul 48-Oct 48 – Food and clothing whse. Guard.
30 Oct 48 – Departed CHILIN (吉林), MANCHURIA.
2 Nov 48 – Arrived ERHSHIHCHIATZU (二十家屯), MANCHURIA.
28 Nov 48 – Departed ERHSHIHCHIATZU (二十家屯), MANCHURIA.

1 Mar 50-30 Mar 50 – Engaged in field training.
1 Apr 50 – Departed CHENCHOU (鄭州), CHINA for WONSAN (元山), KOREA.
9 Apr 50 – With 100 other men from his outfit, arrived P’YONGYANG (平壤), KOREA, to attend officers’ school.
9 Apr 50-16 Jul 50 – Attended officers’ school.
17 Jul 50 – Assigned to the 35th Regt, 1st Bn, 2d Co, 3d Plat as a Plat Leader at CHENGHURI (承湖里), KOREA.
20 Jul 50-3 Oct 50 – Trained recruits.
4 Oct 50 – Departed CHENGHURI (承湖里), KOREA.
13 Oct 50 – Arrived HSINCHI (新溪), KOREA.
13 Oct 50-15 Oct 50 – Engaged in maneuvers in preparation for combat in the mountains.
16 Oct 50 – Went into combat. Fought about 1 hr and was captured at SUAN (參安), KOREA.

ECONOMIC
GASOLINE TANKS & WHSE        HSINHO (新河), CHINA
Jr Lt                   D/O Mar 49 – Dec 49
LOCATION:
200 m from HSINHO (新河) RR Station.
OBSERVATION:
PW guarded this gasoline tank and gasoline drum whse from Mar 49 to Dec 49.
AREA:
Gasoline tanks and gasoline whse cover a ground area of about 400 m x 1000 m enclosed by a 2 m high electric fence.
There were 3 gas tanks, 4 whse and 3 billets for the employees.
GASOLINE TANK:
The approx size of the gasoline tank was 20 m (dia) x 25 m.
WAREHOUSE:
One of the building was a 10 m x 30 m x 5 m high, red brick buildings with galvanized iron gable type roofs.
From the tank they put the gasoline in the drums (50 cm diam x 1 m) and stored it in the whse before shipping it out.
They could store approx 30,000 drums in the 4 whse.
LABORERS:
There were approx 200 men employed on an 3 hr basis, 6 days a week.
There were two entrances on the north side of the area and one entrance on the south side. There was one guard at each entrance and one roving guard inside the fence.
They shipped about 3,000 drums a week. Destination unknown.

GASOLINE DRUM WAREHOUSE      WUCHANG (武昌), CHINA
Jr Lt                   D/O Dec 49 – Feb 50
LOCATION:
Approx 4 km SE of the WUCHANG (武昌) RR Station.
OBSERVATION:
PW guarded these gasoline drum whse from Dec 49 to Feb 50.
AREA:
The gasoline drum whse covered an area of about 1000 m x 1200 m and were widely spaced.
WAREHOUSE:
There were about 17 whse (same type). The buildings were 8 m x 20 m x 5 m, red brick buildings with black slate gable type roofs.
One whse could accommodate about 1,200 drums (60 cm x 1 m).
TRANSPORTATION:
There was one 5 meter wide dirt road leading to this area.
HEARSAY:
PW heard from truck drivers that the gasoline drums were sent south. Destination unknown.
FORMER CHINESE COMMUNIST UNIT:
Northeastern People’s Liberation Army, 4th Field Army, Transportation Unit, Guard Regt, 3d Bn, 10th Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sqd.
12 men to a Sqd. 3 Sqd to a Plat. 3 Plat to a Co.
In a squad, 9 men were armed with Japanese type 38 rifles and the other 3 men formed a crew for one US made type 19 LMG.
When PW departed from KOREA, his unit was at HANKOU (漢口), CHINA.
On 1 March 50, all Korean soldiers were gathered at CHENCHOU (鄭州), CHINA to organize the Northeastern People’s Liberation Army, 4th Field Army, Independent 15th Division (東北人民解放軍 第四野戰軍 獨立十五師團) and on 1 April 50 departed for WONSAN (元山), KOREA.
