2. ASSESSMENT:
Talked freely, but is not intelligent. Information was very limited. Reliability - poor.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
14 Jan 31 -Born in MANCHURIA, CHILIN SHENG WANG CH'ING-HSIEN CH'UNHUA-TS'UN-TUN (滿洲 吉林省 汪淸縣 春草村 下口夏屯)
25 Mar 45 -Family moved to CHILIN-SHENG, WANG CH'ING-HSIEN, CHUNMING-TS'UN, SHAOHIN-KOU, TAI PING-TUNG (吉林省 汪淸縣 春明村 沙台溝 太平洞)
30 Dec 45 - Graduated from primary school. PW worked at his home (farm) for a year.
18 Jan 47 - Entered the WANG CH'ING-HSIEN Middle School which was located at WANG CH'ING-SHIEN, WANGCHING-CHIEH (汪淸縣 汪淸街).
18 Sep 47 - Volunteered for the Peoples' Liberation Army while still attending school. Assigned to the 5th Co, 2d Bn, 72d Regt which was at CHILIN-SHENG, YENCHI (吉林省 延吉). The 72d Regt consisted of two Korean Bn and one Chinese Bn. Received basic training for about a year. Assigned to the Guard Plat of the 72d Regt after basic training. The 72d Regt fought against the Chinese Nationalist Army at various places within CHILIN-SHENG until Dec 48.
O/a 25 Dec 48 - The 72d Regt moved to HSINGKING(新京). The 72d Regt was attached to the 164th Div and was redesignated as the 1st Regt. All the Chinese were excluded and only the Koreans remained in the 164th Div. However, the CG of the Div down to CO of Bn were Chinese. Korean officers mostly acted as assistant CO from Div down to Bn.
The 164th Div was stationed in HSINKING as occupation unit.
6 Aug 49 - The 164th Div departed HSINKING by train. The Chinese officers including the CG were all replaced by the Korean officers. No one knew that they were leaving for NORTH KOREA, except the high ranking officers.
9 Aug 49 - The 164th Div reached NANAM (羅南).
The 164th Div was redesignated as the 5th Div.
Assigned to the Guard Plat, 10th Regt. PW received infantry training here until the outbreak of this war.
Surrendered to ROK policemen on 31 Sep 50 at P'OHANG-DONG after he had been separated from his unit for about ten days.

POSITION: Former CO of 1st Regt, 164th Div in MANCHURIA
PERSONAL HISTORY: Formerly served in the 8th Route Army and fought against the Japanese for 8 yr in NORTH CHINA.
Did not know where the Chinese officers were transferred after the 164th Div left MANCHURIA. There were only 2 Div (164th and 166th Div - both composed of Koreans) and an unknown number of Independent Security Units in MANCHURIA as of Aug 49. Believes that only the Independent Security Units remained in MANCHURIA when the 164th and the 166th Div departed from NORTH KOREA. The 166th Div was redesignated as the 6th Div after they arrived NORTH KOREA.
