Chronology:
21 Oct 24 - Born in TUNGCHING-HSIEN (東寧縣) MANCHURIA. Attended 5 yr primary school at MULENG (穆校) MANCHURIA.
Jun 44 - Inducted in Japanese Army, Kwantung Army 430 unit at ANCHAN (鞍山). Assigned to AA Co.
Aug 45 - Released by the Japanese Army.
Feb 46 -Forced to join the CCF Northeastern Democratic Allied Army (東北民主聯軍) with 36 other Koreans, who formerly served with the Japanese Army at MULENG. Assigned to the MULENG IND BN. (Approx 400 men).
Mar 47 - The MULENG IND BN was redesignated the MU-TAN-CHIANG MILITARY DISTRICT, Ind 3d Regt, 1st Bn.
Jul 47 - The northeastern Democratic Allied Army was redesignated the Northeastern Liberation Army.
Dec 48 - The Ind 3d Regt was disbanded. PW with 20 Co of the Regt was assigned to the newly organized Chinese liberation Army, 4th Field Army, 15th Army group, 43d Army, Arty Regt
Dec 48 - Engaged in the CHANGCHUN (長春) and HEISHAN (黑山) Campaigns with the 43d Army.
Jan 49 - Fought with the 43d Army in the CHANMAIKUAN (山梅關) and TIENCHING (天津) campaigns.
Nov 49 - Arrived KUANGCHOU City (廣州市): Capital of KUANGUNG-SHENG (廣東省), with a Bn straight unit of the 43d Army Arty Regt. The main force of the Regt was with the 15th Army group.
Jan 50 - After two months rest the Bn departed southward.
15 Jan 50 - Arrived HSIYONG(西■) located on NE portion of the LEICHOU peninsula (雷州半島). Stayed there for two weeks.
7 Feb 50 - Arrived HSUMEN (徐問) which was located Island. The Arty units did not see any action throughout their invasion of South CHINA.
13 Feb 50 - All Koreans of the 4th Field Army received orders from the Chinese People's Liberation Army GHQ to group in MANCHURIA.
20 Mar 50 - Approx 10,000 Koreans of the various units of the 4th Field Army assembled at CHENGCHOU (鄭州), North CHINA. The Ind 15th Div was organized. PW assigned to the Div Supply Plat as Platoon leader.
2 Apr 50 - Departed CHENGCHOU (島) for North KOREA.

City of MU-TAN CHIANG (牡丹江)   OBS: 1946 - 1948
Entered MU-TAN-CHIANG frequently during period 1946 and 1947. He also stayed in this town for one day in Dec 48.
City - See Sketch.
POINT-1: Destroyed former Japanese Army barracks and installation area. The area accommodated approx 10,000 men while used by the Japanese Army. Believed to the utilized by CCF personnel. No details.
POINT-2: Transformer Station - Covered an approx 200 x 200 m area enclosed by a barbed wire fence 1½m high. A wooden bldg, 40 x 12 x 5 m, with a gabled wooden shingle roof was located in the W portion of the area. Approx 12 transformers, 4 x 4 x 5.5 m, were located in area. Had no knowledge of source of electricity or technical information.
POINT-3: Military Airfield: Location -2 km V of the AIHO (愛河) RR Station, 4 km NW of a 400 m long single line RR bridge and 3 km N of the eastward flowing MU-TAN_CHIANG River (牡舟江) and 200 m wide.
Dimensions - The airfield was situated on a level terrain and covered on approx 2.5 km N/S by 1.2 km E/W. No boundary markers or fence observed.
Runway and Surface - The airfield surface was level and was covered with grass 20 cm high. Approx 6 concrete runways in a N to S direction were observed on the E portion of the field. The length of the runway was estimated to be over 1.5 km but width was unknown.
Facilities - No facilities observed on airfield. However approx six brick bldg were located E of the field.
Aircraft and Activity - No aircraft or flying activity observed on this field as of Dec 48.
Remarks - Did not know if this former Japanese Army field was being utilized by the CCF.
POINT-4: Single line steel RR bridge - 4 flat type steel RR bridge 400 m long - This bridge was formerly a multi-span type bridge but was destroyed by Russian aircraft attacks during World War II and was reconstructed by the Manchurians. Capacity unknown.
POINT-5: Concrete Bridge - A two lane concrete bridge 400 m long and 8 m wide. Capacity unknown.
POINT-6: Military Training Area (敎■管) - Covered an approx 300 x 300 m area and had no fence. A red brick constructed, two story bldg, 150 x 25 x 10 m, with a title gabled roof, was located on the W portion of the area. A small mess bldg was located on the E portion of area.
At night, guards were posted on the S and N sides of the area. Approx 500 personnel, who were recommended by their respective CO from various units of the CCF, were undergoing military and political training here. The training period lasted 2 to 3 months and, after completing training, the officers or EM were sent back to their former units.
POINT-7: MU-TAN-CHIANG 2d Army Hospital - Covered an approx 200 x 80 m area and had no fence. A reinforced concrete two story bldg, 150 x 20 x 10 m, with a tile gabled roof was located on the W portion of the area. Believed to be a former Japanese hospital bldg. Wounded or sick personnel of the CCF MU-TAN-CHIANG Military District were sent to this hospital. Details of hospital administration or hospital capacity were unknown.
POINT-8: MU-TAN-CHIANG 1st Army Hospital and Army Hospital Hq - Covered an approx 200 x 50 m area and had no fence. A reinforced concrete, two storied bldg, 100 x 20 x 10 m, with a tile gabled roof, was located on the W portion of the area. The district Army Hospital Hq was located in this bldg. Further details unknown.
POINT-9: MU_TAN-CHIANG-SHENG provincial Gov't Bldg (牡丹江公暑). A red brick, three storied bldg. Dimensions unknown. This bldg was used as the Provincial Gov't Bldg, by the Japanese but, present use was unknown.
POINT-10: MU-TAN-CHIANG Province Police Hq - A red brick, three storied bldg. Dimensions unknown. Present use of this bldg was also unknown.
POINT-11: MU-TAN-CHIANG Military District Hq (牡丹江軍區司令部) - Covered an approx 800 x 500 m area and was enclosed by a wooden fence 2 m high on N, W, E, portions: barbed wide fence 2 m high on the S portion.
A reinforced concrete, three storied bldg, 400 x 20 x 15 m, with a white tile gabled roof, was located on the NE portion of the area. Approx three, reinforced concrete, two storied bldg were located S of the above bldg. Numbers of small bldg were also located in area but, details were unknown. Present commander of the Military District unknown. Approx 1,000 security guard personnel were stationed here. No further information.
POINT-12: Textile Mill - Formerly operated by Japanese. Covered on approx 600 x 80 m area. Never entered the plant area and therefore, number or details of plants were unknown. Observed the following products: (1) Plain white cloth. (2) Black cotton material. (3) Khaki cotton material. No further information.
POINT-13: RR workers billet area - Former Southern Manchuria RR Co workers billet area. Covered an approx 700 x 700 m area and had no fence. Approx five, reinforced concrete or red brick, constructed, two storied billets, 80 x 20 x 12 m, were located in the area. Details of other smaller bldg were unknown. This billet are was not occupied by CCF personnel.
POINT-14: RR Workers Hospital - former Southern Manchuria RR Co hospital covered an approx 500 x 300 m area and had no fence. The main bldg of this hospital was a two storied, brick, 120 x 25 x 12 m bldg, with a white tile, gabled roof, located on the N portion of the area. Details of other smaller bldg were unknown. Capacity or facility of hospital also unknown.
POINT-15: Military Airfield Location - 8 km SE of the MU-TAN-CHIANG RR Station, and 10 km E of a double line RR truck which led to HARBIN from MU-TAN-CHIANG.
Area - The airfield was situated on a level plain.
Remarks: This former Japanese Military airfield was used by the CCF as a training field (hearsay). Never observed the airfield closely but stated that a friend of his told him that he was undergoing air corps training there. No further information.
