2. ASSESSMENT:
Fairly cooperative and observant, but his estimate of distances and diversions was poor. Reliability, fair.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
Nov 24 - Feb 38 - Born in South KOREA, and lived with parents.
Mar 38 - Sep 45 - Entered MANCHURIA and resided at TUNGHUA-SHENG, LIUHO-HSIEN, HSIANGYANG-T'SUN, SSUTAO-KOU (通化省 柳河縣 向陽村). Received 6 years of Primary education and was engaged in farming.
Oct 45 - Feb 46 - Conscripted at LIUHO (柳河), MANCHURIA in a volunteer battalion and received basic training in the saw town.
Mar 46 - I Jun 46 -Bn moved to TUNGHUA (通化) together with 5 other volunteer battalions and activated a new Regt.
Jul 43 - Dec 47 - Three battalions of the newly activated Regt moved to FUSUNG (■松) MANCHURIA to continue basic training. During this period PW was a Pvt and worked with a battalion supply section.
20 Dec - 30 Dec 47 - The 3 battalions moved to MEIHOKOU (梅河口) and formed another regiment which was commended by WANG, Cha In (王子仁)(Korean, no rank). The Regt was engaged in constructing military barracks. PW was discharged from the volunteer army because of ill health, returned to LIUHO and engaged in farming.
27 Dec 49 -Moved to MUKDEN (奉天) MANCHURIA with family and was engaged in farming.
5 Aug 50 - Arrested by Home Ministry Police while enroute to KOREA via SINUIJU (新義州).
7 Aug 50 - Conscripted into the NKFA as a Jr Lt at P'YONGYANG(平壤).

SOCIOLOGICAL
LIUHO, MANCHURIA
Jr Lt (少慰)               Obs: Oct 45 - Dec 49
Observation: Between Oct 45 and Feb 45, received basic training and between Dec 47 and Dec 49, was a farmer in LIUHO.
The main area of LIUHO measured approximately 1 km x 0.5 km and was surrounded by a cud well about 2 m high. There were 3 small villages occupied by Koreans in the vicinity of the walled town.
LIUNG consisted of approximately 1000 houses, had population of about 4,500 Manchurians and 500 Koreans. The majority of the inhabitants were farmers.
The largest best equipped hospital of LIUHO-HSIEN was situated in the town. The hospital was able to accommodate about 500 patients, but actually very few patients were seen. The town was sanitary compared to the other towns in the neighborhood. He epidemic prevailed during observation of this town. The administration office of LIUHO-SHENG (province) was situated in LIUHO but details were unknown.

Volunteer Army (Inf Regt)
On 18 Oct 45, conscripted into a volunteer Bn composed only of Koreans at LIUHO. This unit received bask training at LIUHO and FUSHUNG and activated a new Regt with other Bn in Dec 47. See chronology for place and dates of troops movements. Details concerning the new Regt when observed in Dec 47 were as follow: PW was a Pvt and served in the supply section of the Regt.
Organization and Strength: The unit consisted of approximately 980 Koreans who were formerly farmers in southern MANCHURIA. Because the man wore neither stripes nor epaulets, the number of officers was unknown. Breakdown of the Regt is as follows:

Equipment: Each Bn was equipped with:
2 or 3 x 120 mm Howitzer (Japanese made)
2 or 3 LMG (Japanese made) Approximately 270 rifles (Japanese made)
The Regt, Bn, and Co CO were armed with Japanese pistols. The Regt was equipped with 5 x 2-ton trucks. All equipment was supplied by the CCF. Clothing was very poor and obtained also from the CCF.
Supply: The Regt obtained provisions from the government of the Province in which the unit was located. Although there was a shortage of clothing, food was sufficient.

Mission: The primary mission of the Regt was to fight against the Chinese Nationalist Army and protect the South Manchurian towns from bandits.
