PW made contradictory remarks. Reliability, poor

Born: 13 Aug 27 at LUNGCHING TS’UN.

Mar 33 - Dec 41 - Attended Elementary School at LUNG CHING TS’UN.

Dec 41 - Mar 43 - Stayed at home due to illness.

Mar 43 - Nov 46 - Attended ELSHIN Middle School

Nov 46 - Aug 47 - Unemployed and left MANCHURIA for CH’ONGJIN, KOREA about mid-Aug 47.

MILITARY AIRFIELD

LUNG CHING TS’UN

This airfield was called the LUNG CHING TS’UN Airfield. Airfield was located about 1 km WSW of the LUNG CHING TS'UN RR Station and. about 700 or 800 m W of the LUNG CHING University Hospital (former Japanese embassy) which was a 4-story brick building located in the center of the town.

Observation: PW observed this airfield many times from the W bank of the HAI LAN CHING, which was a distance of about 100 m from the airfield.

Dimensions: This airfield had an odd shape (see sketch--incl for shape) and the field measured 1,000 m x 1,000 m at the largest point and 1,000 x 200 m at the smallest point.

Runway and Surface: There was no runway on this field and the entire area was a grassy field. The surface appeared to be hard.

Building: Observed four sheet iron buildings on the N part of the airfields. A building on the E side of the field was a barracks about 25 m x 20 m x 6 m with gabled sheet iron roof and 3 sheet iron hangars 15 x 10 x 10 m with gabled sheet iron roof (see sketch for location of buildings).

Obstruction: There was a hill about 200 m high located about 200 or 300 m W of the airfield.

Technical Facilities: Saw a windsock on top of the barrack in 45, but has not seen any since the end of the war. Observed one wooden antenna tower extending 2 m from the roof of the barracks meterology. The wind in this area blows from the NE most of the year and the wind from the SE blows for about 3 months from Jun to Aug or Sep. It rains most in Jul, but even then only once or twice a week. It starts to snow from about the middle of November and it becomes about 6 cm deep in Jan. The snow thaws from about mid-Apr.

Miscellaneous: Observed Japanese single engine fighter plane on this field before the war ended, but never observed any planes since the war ended.

The Russians occupied this town from about 20 Aug 45, and civilians were never allowed to enter the airfield. From about Dec 45, the people of this town had to have travel permit to go outside the town. The Russians left in summer of 46.
