2. ASSESSMENT:
PW of average intelligence and cooperative. PW memory can be considered better than average; his memory of dates was remarkable, his estimate of distance is poor. Although his travel through MANCHURIA with the CCF was quite extensive, most of the time was spent in the hills and on the road. His stay in places given in the chronology was brief, ranging from 5 days to 1 week, with the exception of SHENYANG. Reliability fair.

5 Feb 41: Moved to LUTAI, N CHINA. Did farming.
19 Nov 45: Inducted into LEE, Tae Song (李大成) unit, Korean Volunteer Army, CCF.

Locnation of sites in MUKDEN:
Observation:
PW worked as a security guard in the following area from Dec 48 to Jul 49.
Layout of Sites:
PW drew a memory sketch of TIEHHSI (鉄西) district of MUKDEN which is attached to this report. Points on sketch are listed and described as follows on next page.
Point 1 - Warehouse:
Three concrete warehouses, each measuring 80 m x 7 m x 5 m with black gabled galvanized iron roofs were located immediately SE of the underpass. These warehouses were almost always filled to capacity with ammunition manufactured (See points 2 and 3 this report) in ammunition plant in vicinity. Three or four RR car loads were taken out and sent to WUCH’ANG (武昌) every 3 or 4 days. PW stood sentry here for his entire stay in MUKDEN, from Dec 48 to 27 Jul 49.
Point 2 - 81mm mortar shell plant.
One story concrete structure measuring 120 m x 8 m x 5 m with gabled galvanized iron roofing painted black. Located immediately E of the streetcar line, S of the paved road, and 750 m from the underpass. Concrete stack 20 m high by 2 m diameter located on E end of the building.
Quantity or quality of shells unknown but to the best of PW knowledge, the ammunition produced here was the exact replica of the US 81mm mortar shells. Its color was olive drab with two white steel bands around the shell slightly above the thickest part of the shell. PW visited this plant on numerous occasions but never entered the building.
Point 3 - 81mm mortar shell plant:
This one-story concrete building, measuring 100 m x 8 m x 5 m, with gabled galvanized iron roofing painted black, was located immediately SE of the streetcar line-asphalt road crossing 1½ km N of the streetcar terminal. Other details same as point 2, this report (including smokestack).
Point 4 - Foundry:
One story “L” shaped concrete structure. The longer portion of the building measured 200 meters and the other 70 meters both 8 m wide by 7 m high. Located along the asphalt road, 500 m W of the street car line-asphalt road crossing or 2 km NNW of the street-car terminal.
This foundry was dismantled and all its machinery taken to unknown points during the Soviet occupation but during the PW stay, most of the machinery was returned and reassembled and reinstalled. According to hearsay in Jun 49, this plant would be in operation by Jun 50. A Russian in civilian clothes was seen up to Jul 49. Two holes made by bombs dropped in World War II were observed but no serious damage to the bldg was inflicted.
Although the cranes were missing, double tracks were suspended on 30 cm square wooden rafters. Rafters spaced at an interval of 20 m, each supported by 30 cm square wooden support which also acted as reinforcement for walls. Floor was concrete.
Point 5 - Sub-machine gun Plant:
This plant, comprised of two (2) one-story buildings each measuring 80 m x 7 cm x 5 m with gabled galvanized iron roofs painted black, was located adjacent to the RR line, 4 km W of the main RR station, or 500 meters from the dirt road--RR line crossing. Type of gun manufactured here was the US 45 caliber submachine gun (Seen by PW).
According to hearsay, this plant was constructed by CHIANG Kai Shek’s Army and left intact when his Army withdrew. Production was continued under CCF almost without interruption. (The above five points are the main buildings. In the blank space on sketch were countless smaller structures including employees billets, storage sheds, and even rice stored in the open with canvas covering).
Point 6 - Raised tracks:
The base constructed of earthwork 8 m high. This point 100 m wide.
Point 7 - Raised Tracks:
The base constructed of earthwork 6 m high. This point by the main RR station is 200 m wide.
Point 8 - Raised tracks:
Gradually slope until level with ground at this point.

For the Commanding Officer:
