With another soldier surrendered to I&R Plat, 19th RCT. In good physical condition at interrogation. Cooperative, but illiterate. Information should be assessed accordingly. Not recommended for further interrogation. Engaged as farmer prior to entering CCF.
a. Chronology:
Conscripted into CCF at MO NI YUNG CHUN 2 months ago. PW unit entered KOREA at ANTUNG with other units as stretcher bearers 2 months ago. Assigned to present unit 1 month ago due to shortage of frontline trp. 39th Army arrived vic HONG-CHON DS 020715 3 weeks ago. Due to incessant air strikes and arty barrage, withdrew to positions 8 km N of HONGCHON 10 Mar 51. Stayed at this location 3 days then withdrew N to mountain (1 night march from last position) 13 Mar 51. When PW and another soldier were ordered to find concealment materials for foxholes from village at base of position, they took opportunity to desert.
4th Co was approx 1 km E of 5th Co. 6th Co was 1 km W of 5th Co. 2d Bn CP was 400 meters behind 6th Co in house at base of hill.
PW took main road towards KAPYONG CS 694864 and at CS 698875 encountered CCF troops from 42d Army moving in northerly direction 151800 Mar 51. After encounter with these troops, proceeded on main road to CS 604768 arriving 170800 Mar 51. Picked up by I&R of 19th RCT.

d. Mission:
Hear from 2d Bn CO to hold position against UN Forces.
e. Food & Ammo:
Food locally procured. Insufficient. When plentiful, 2 meals per day, at other times 1 meal per day. Ammo insufficient.
f. Other Units:
Heard from Bn CO 40th Army was in front of 39th Army and 42d Army in reserve just N of river (PUKHAN?) 1 week ago.
g. Morale:
Morale low due to lack of food. Fatigued from always walking in mountains.
h. Broadcast and Leaflets:
Heard plane broadcast 170800 Mar 51. Believed broadcast and thought he would be picked up soon by UN Forces.
Had friend read leaflet picked up 17 Mar 51. Contents same as broadcast.
